I'm still sensing this could come down to a battle between A24's Parthenope (Sorrentino) and Bird (Arnold), which doesn't yet have a US distributor but is likely in a few companies' sights.

And if forced to pick from among only the first-time Palme contenders, I'd lean toward Magnus von Horn's The Girl With the Needle over The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Three Kilometers to the End of the World, Wild Diamond, Beating Hearts, All We Imagine as Light, Grand Tour and The Substance.
