American star Todrick Hall is to play Donkey in this summer’s run of Shrek The Musical at the Eventim Apollo in London.
Shrek The Musical will play the Eventim Apollo in London from 19 July to 31 August 2024.
The show recently completed a big tour of the UK and Ireland.
The cast of Shrek sees Todrick Hall as Donkey, alongside Antony Lawrence (The Lion King, Mary Poppins) as Shrek, Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton (The Addams Family) as Princess Fiona, Olivier-Award nominated James Gillan (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Wicked, Taboo! ) as the evil Lord Farquaad, and Cherece Richards (Once on This Island) as Dragon.
The production features all of the classic characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film, and the songs and story from David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical, that also has a book by William Steig.
Directed by Sam Holmes and Nick Winston, the creative team also includes Choreography by Nick Winston; Co-director Sam Holmes; Set and Costume Design by Philip Witcomb; Lighting by Ben Cracknel; Sound by Ben Harrison; Casting by Jim Arnold; Projection Design by Nina Dunn; and and Puppet Design by Jimmy Grimes.
Todrick Hall is about to star in Burlesque The Musical in Manchester and Glasgow, directed by Nick Winston, who is also co-directing and choreographing Shrek The Musical.
Todrick is best known for his time judging RuPaul’s Drag Race, as singer-songwriter and as a media personality with over 900 million views on YouTube.
Todrick made his Broadway debut in The Color Purple and went on to join the original Broadway cast of Memphis. He has also starred as Lola in Kinky Boots, Ogie in Waitress; and played Billy Flynn in Chicago on Broadway and the West End. He recently played Nurse in Wild About You.
