Do you currently hold a valid driver's licence? Help

I am going to apply to a car washing job, and there's this question I have to answer. I'm on my Green P so do I answer yes or no? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question I'm just confused because I don't have a full licence yet just green P.

Yes, they basically want to know you have one not whether its restricted. It hasn't been disqualified or suspended, it's for the correct type of vehicle, and its valid in WA.

Ok ill put yes, I have a automatic licence only but I guess I can tell them in the interview

Dude, go and get your manual license. If you want to work with cars you need to be able to drive both.

I worked in a car wash before when I didn't have a licence it was fine. Someone moved the cars for us.

most places will require you to be able to drive manual and auto, if your going to be driving cars around at the car wash you’ll wanna be able to drive both anyway.

WA is one of the states that will restrict your licence your whole life (or until you redo the test) if you do your test in an auto car.

Some states only restrict you for your Ps and other states (likes SA) don’t restrict your licence at all which i found quite interesting.

Can confirm. I once lived with a friend in SA of mine that couldn’t drive a manual but had a full license.

This was 25 years ago 😂 Only found out recently it was still the same.

I had an auto license in WA and when I moved to Canberra at the age of 28 they gave me a full license as Canberra only restricts P platers. I moved back to Perth 10 years later and got to keep my full license. Still can’t drive a manual though haha

haha yeah there’s that too…

States are notoriously bad at streamlining licensing, i’ve even heard of a situation where someone with a suspended licence was able to transfer their licence to another state and the suspension didn’t follow 😅

my guess is, because Canberra doesn’t restrict full licence holders to auto they had no way to record that you originally had an auto licence, so when you went back to WA only the info that Canberra had followed you.

Lucky you!

I had the same thing happen moving from Qld to NSW in the 90's, except I can drive a manual.

P plates count as a licence.

Think about the role you're applying for. You'll likely be relocating vehicles from parking to wash bays. Both manual and automatic. As long as it's C class I wouldn't worry if you're on your P's or not.

They just want to know if you can move and park a car. If they ask during an interview you could say you're on your P's if you like.

Good luck.

Yeah i have automatic licence, thanks

If they ask in an interview be up front “I have my green Ps”. Don’t try to hide this… it may affect your chances to get the job (if their insurance won’t cover you in green Ps, and you need to move cars for your job), but better to know that now than two days after starting.
