Thiruvananthapuram: The investigation into the murder of Akhil, who was brutally beaten to death in Karamana sub-village, has taken a significant turn with the arrest of five more suspects, including the main accused.
The prime accused, Vineeth (25), also known as Vineesh Raj and second accused, Akhil Appu (26), both hailing from Kaimanam, as well as third accused Sumesh, fifth accused Kiran Krishnan (27) alias Balu from Thirumala, and seventh accused Harilal (27) from Thiruvallam have been arrested. Karamana police had nabbed the fourth accused, Aneesh (29), from his residence in Pappanamcode, the other day.
Akhil was arrested from Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning, while Vineeth was apprehended by the city shadow police. Two more Abhilash (35) and Arun Babu (27), both from Karamana, are yet to be arrested, bringing the total number of accused to eight.
According to the police, Vineeth, Akhil, and Sumesh were directly involved in the murder, while the others are believed to have been part of the conspiracy. A widespread search operation is underway across Kerala and Tamil Nadu to locate the remaining culprits.
This crime is not the first involvement of the accused in such acts, as they are also implicated in the abduction and fatal beating of a young man named Ananthu in Karamana back in 2019. Akhil's murder was committed while the accused were returning from a court appearance for Ananthu’s murder case at the Nedumangad SC/STs Special Court.
Police investigations reveal that following their court proceedings, the accused gathered for drinks at Karamana. Four from the gang, upon reaching Kaimanam, encountered Akhil and viciously attacked him to death. The assault allegedly stemmed from a previous altercation at a bar in Pappanamcode on the night of Lok Sabha elections in Kerala.
