Weinberg, who has pleaded not guilty, will face multiple life sentences if convicted

Eric Weinberg will stand trial for sexual assault and rape.

Variety reported Tuesday that the writer-producer, who worked on series like Scrubs and Californication, will face 28 charges from eight anonymous women whom he allegedly abused between 2014 and 2019.

According to the outlet, Judge Charlaine Olmedo, who also oversaw Danny Masterson’s rape case, dismissed four other charges, ruling that three of them fell outside of the statute of limitations and that the fourth lacked sufficient evidence.

The remaining 28 charges against Weinberg, who has been in jail since October 22, include three counts of alleged forcible rape and several counts of alleged forcible oral copulation, sexual battery, and sexual penetration by force. He faces multiple life sentences if convicted.

Weinberg was first arrested in July 2022 and released on $3.225 million bail. He was then charged on Oct. 5, 2022, and his bail increased to $5 million. A judge then revoked his bail on Oct. 25, 2022, citing that the multitude of allegations suggest he "cannot stop and will not stop his sexual assaults on women." He has pleaded not guilty.

A representative for Weinberg and representatives from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

At the preliminary hearing that extended from late April to early May, Variety reported that nine women testified about their experiences with Weinberg. Most of them said that the producer approached them in public places — mostly coffee shops grocery stores — and asked if they had any interest in modeling, then invited them back to his home for a photoshoot.

Multiple women said they feared for their lives once the encounters with Weinberg turned sexual. “I thought maybe he would attack me, or rape me, or worst-case scenario: death… No one knew where I was,” one woman said. “So if something had happened there would be no trace of me.”

“I was afraid he was going to kill me,” another woman testified. Four of the women said that Weinberg choked them during their interactions.

An arraignment is scheduled for June 4, and no trial date has been set yet.
