Deadpool and Wolverine is already one of the most exciting movies to come out in 2024. Being the threequel to Fox's two Deadpool movies, this will mark the first time that the loudmouth mercenary becomes a part of the famed MCU. This is also the first Deadpool movie to be produced under the banner of Disney, which adds an extra dimension of unpredictability, given Disney's commitment to family-friendly entertainment.
But in a recent video interview with Fandango, Reynolds revealed that though the upcoming movie, which also features Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, is under the banner of Disney, it has not dulled down any of the R-rated elements that make the Ryan Reynolds-led movies stand out. In fact, given that the grumpy mutant Logan is also a part of this, fans can expect more R-rated things from the franchise's recent entry.
Ryan Reynolds clarified that he did not mean to sound condescending while pointing out that he was surprised by how Disney handled the new MCU movie.
What did Ryan Reynolds say about Deadpool and Wolverine's R-rating?
The previous two movies in the series were both R-rated and managed to gross very high at the box office. The third film, which also happens to be one of the most exciting ones, is slated to be gorier and more mature. However, many fans initially doubted this as it was being produced under Disney instead of Fox.
But Ryan Reynolds clarified the doubts of fans by revealing that he was surprised by how lenient Disney was in their treatment of this R-rated entry. He said in the video interview:
"I hope it doesn’t sound condescending, I’m really proud of them for doing this. I think it’s a huge step for them,...I mean, it adds a whole other color to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining forever."
He added:
"I was surprised though, that they let us go as hard R, but very grateful. I mean there’s no other way to do it...[The R rating] really [allowed] us to do anything and everything in a world where anything and everything is possible,"
This is also going to mark the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has dominated the superhero market for over a decade now.

Deadpool and Wolverine is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the third part of the Ryan Reynolds-led franchise. Directed by Shaun Levy, with a script from Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, this upcoming film is going to tie many Marvel universes together, including the existing MCU and the previous hit franchise X-Men, which also contained several Wolverine-led spinoffs like Logan and X-Men Origins.
The synopsis for Deadpool and Wolverine reads:
"Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy."
The film will reportedly change the entire course of MCU history, which, at this point in the universe, may be the best way to take things forward.
The ensemble cast of the film includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen, besides the lead pair of Jackman and Reynolds.
Deadpool and Wolverine is set to release theatrically on July 26, 2024.
