Mike Tindall Shares How He Celebrated Wife Zara's Birthday with 'a Few' Drinks — and Makes a Quip About Her Age

The former rugby athlete hosted a celebrity golf tournament after marking his royal wife's 43rd birthday

Mike Tindall is having an exciting week — not only is he hosting his annual charity golf event, but he also celebrated his wife Zara's birthday!

The former professional rugby player, 45, appeared on Good Morning Britain on May 17 from the Mike Tindall Celebrity Golf Classic, sharing details about Zara's low-key birthday celebrations.

Although Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter marked her 43rd birthday on May 15, Mike told the morning show hosts, "She keeps telling me she was 34, so I think you got the numbers wrong."

Mike described the "lovely day," starting with Zara, an accomplished equestrian who earned a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London (and touchingly accepting her medal from a fellow royal Olympian, her mom Princess Anne), going for a "ride in the morning."

"Then we went out for lunch and then we just hung out all day and had a few friends over in the evening for dinner. It was a very, very nice day," the retired pro athlete said.

"Probably why I had a quieter night last night because I might have had a few the night before," he quipped.

Just last year, Mike had a different attitude. Speaking at the same golf event after King Charles and Queen Camilla's coronation on May 6, 2023, Mike shared that he and Zara had a "little date night" on the eve of the crowning ceremony that reportedly kept them out until 2 a.m.

"Never worry about what's tomorrow," he said on Good Morning Britain. "Enjoy the moment and then you can deal with the next day later."

The ISPS Handa Celebrity Golf Classic Tournament, now in its 11th year, is held to raise money for the Cure Parkinson's Trust and the Matt Hampson Foundation. Mike's father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003, making the cause extra close to his heart.

Zara joined her husband at the event, matching in pink polo shirts and white baseball caps.

"I finally convinced Zara to stop [practicing] her putting and have a photo with me!" Mike captioned a photo of the pair on X.

Mike has also participated in cycling and running challenges to help raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease.

"It's a nightmare disease because there are over 40 symptoms of what Parkinson’s can look like," Mike said in April 2019. "The research that has come out [shows] how many people think they're drunk or people can suddenly freeze in the middle of the street and you might upset somebody who’s walking behind you and they just don’t get it. They don’t understand that can be part of it. That’s the difficult side of it."

He added that he was taking on fundraising events for future generations: “It's about other sons and daughters not having to see their dad go through what I’ve seen mine go through."
