Sri Lanka’s Dinara de Silva overcame a tough start to defeat Naomi Hagi of Hong Kong 2-1 in the quarter-final of the J30 Colombo ITF Junior Circuit – Week 2, held at the Sinhalese Sports Club tennis courts yesterday. This win advances her to the semi-final.
In the rescheduled match, which was delayed from the previous day, Sri Lankan player De Silva, from St. Bridget’s Convent, lost the first set 4-6 to the fifth-seeded Hagi. However, De Silva bounced back impressively, winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-1 on the damp SSC courts, after a rain delay.
Second-seeded De Silva will now face eighth-seeded Yu-Ching Wang of Chinese Taipei in the semi-final at the SSC. In the other semi-final, top-seeded Yu-Ching Hsieh of Chinese Taipei will play against Ira Shah of India.
