New Zealand Population Growth Slows as Pace of Immigration Wanes

New Zealand’s population growth is slowing as the pace of inward immigration wanes and more citizens look overseas for job opportunities and better wages.

The estimated population increased by 24,600 in the first quarter, Statistics New Zealand said Wednesday in Wellington. That’s the slowest pace since the third quarter of 2022. The gain reflected net immigration of 19,000 — also the lowest quarterly read since 2022 — and a natural increase of 5,600.
