James McAvoy and Julianne Moore Star in Thriller 'Control' Filming in Berlin

James McAvoy and Julianne Moore are set to star in the upcoming thriller movie "Control," directed by Robert Schwentke. The film, based on the popular podcast "Shipworm" by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, has begun production in Berlin, Germany.

"Control" follows the story of Dr. Conway, a troubled doctor played by McAvoy, who wakes up one morning to find a mysterious voice in his head. As the voice makes escalating demands, Dr. Conway must follow its instructions or face devastating consequences for himself and his family. Moore plays animportant characterthat Dr. Conway must contend with.

The cast also includes Jenna Coleman, Nick Mohammed, Sarah Bolger, Rudi Dharmalingam, Kyle Soller, August Diehl, and Martina Gedeck. Nick Mohammed, known for his roles in "Taskmaster" and "Ted Lasso," recently joined the ensemble. Mohammed expressed his comfort in taking on the role, stating, "The thought of hiding behind a costume instantly relaxed me as it meant I could treat taking part in the tasks like it's fiction." Robert Schwentke, the director of "Control," has previously helmed films such as the 2010 action comedy "Red" and two installments in the "Divergent" series. The screenplay for "Control" is adapted by Zack Akers from his podcast "Shipworm," with revisions by Andrew Baldwin.

Principal photography for "Control" is currently underway at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin. The production marks the fifth collaboration between StudioCanal and The Picture Company to be shot in the city, in association with Studio Babelsberg. Producers Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company are joined by executive producer Luc Etienne and "Shipworm" producerSkip Bronkie.

The film's crew includes director of photography Roman Vasyanov, known for his work on "Suicide Squad" and "Fury," BAFTA-nominated editor Sven Budelmann, who recently worked on "All Quiet on the Western Front," and costume designer Mona May, recognized for her contributions to "Clueless." Casting for the project is handled by Reg Poerscout-Edgerton and Lillie Jeffrey.

While no release date has been announced for "Control," the collaboration between StudioCanal and The Picture Company has yielded several notable projects. Their recent action-comedy "Role Play" premiered on Amazon, and upcoming films include the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" starring Timothée Chalamet, directed by James Mangold. The horror film "Baghead," another joint venture between the two companies, debuted on Shudder on April 5, 2024.
