America the Beautiful Pass

Hi we are travelling from UK end August to visit the NPs in Utah so I plan on buying the ATB pass.

I understand I buy it at rangers post at the entrance of Zion , our first NP, however I'm expecting the park to be very busy so is it worth me paying the extra shipping cost (£25 !) to pre purchase before our trip to save time waiting in line?

Thanks.

No, it won't take long to get your pass at the entrance booth. You will have to wait in the same line whether you have a pass or buy one.

To speed things up, have your photo ID and debit/credit card ready before you pull up to the entry.

Definitely just get it at the Zion entrance. Only one person needs to sign it and there is space for a second person if needed another time (my sister used ours later in the year). Between you and me (!) for some reason I was never actually charged for the third pass I paid for, at Craters of the Moon, though NPS have recouped the money many times over from all our purchases from their shops during two trips this year. Maybe they took pity on me when I was saying how unfair it was that overseas seniors still had to pay lol.

New rules only allow one signature on the card. That person must be there to use the pass although everyone in the vehicle or up to 4 pedestrians and cyclists can enter.

That's a good decision by the NPS. Now all they need to do is charge full price for seniors, military, disabled and 4th graders!

I just went last week and showed up at 7AM like many have suggested and there was no one at any of the entrances to purchase from. I had pre-purchased so I set it on my dash like this forum suggested. Just throwing it out there that depending on your arrival time you may have difficulty acquiring one. Perhaps someone could add their two cents to this in case I am mistaken about this.

If you enter with no one present, you just buy one on your way out.
