Campfire Stories

What are some good old western stories to tell by the campfire, especially the spooky ones? I only know a West Virginia coal mine ghost story from my grandpa that lost 2 uncles to the mines.

How about the couple that returned from a campout and found a hook on the saddle horn?

Also got a WV coal miner story - my great uncle worked them mines and you can hear it in his voice. The other one is the story of how Shakey Graves got his stage name, you can find that as well as his cover of Late July here.

Ambrose Bierce has a spooky cowboy short story called “The Stranger”, if I remember right it even takes place around a campfire! It’s an oldie so you can find it online for free.
