Shoppers question 'why we need another store' as Iceland Food Warehouse announces opening

Some local shoppers are not happy with the news of a national discount store set to open next week in Coventry. One questioned 'why do we need' another large Iceland in the city centre while another added that's 'somewhere else not worth visiting'.

Iceland Foods will be opening a brand-new The Food Warehouse store at Central Six Retail Park on Tuesday, May 14. Group retail director at the company Kristian Barrett is 'excited' to open the store so locals can get their hands on 'market-leading deals' alongside a range of 'frozen, grocery and fresh foods'.

She added that final touches are currently being put to the store, and to celebrate the opening, Iceland will be giving away £1,000 worth of vouchers to the first 100 customers, plus a 1.2kg of Jellybeans to the first 200 customers at the checkout.

In addition, anyone who queues before 7:45am on May 14 will be given a raffle ticket which will see them entered into a free prize draw. The three who are chosen will have the chance to take part in a supermarket sweep-style challenge where they'll have 90 seconds to fill their trolley with goodies while having the store to themselves.

Other prizes up for grabs on the opening day include three JML household essential hampers, two Tower Panini Makers, and two Tower 4 Litre Air Fryers. Customers will also have a chance to guess how many sweets are in the jar for a chance to win a free Daewoo Air Fryer.

BlueBlue123 said: "There's already a large Iceland in town, why in the world do we need yet another one? Is this all our council can support?" Silver Birch Tree replied: "Because this isn't a normal Iceland store. This sells a bigger range at more discounted prices. Will be more beneficial for people."

CCFCfan29 said: "Iceland Warehouse, more complex and in competition with Farmhouse. Surely the council can do better...stop charging high rents, only then will the stores survive. Otherwise, expect ghost town full of bargain stores everywhere."

Another reader added: "They are going to have to alter the roads down there. There needs to be separate entry and exit routes." MarktheDj added: "The island outside the station is a nightmare. Only gonna get worse."
