Delhi Capitals vs Lucknow Super Giants preview: It’s a virtual knockout game in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) as Delhi Capitals (DC) welcome Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

Monday’s game between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad was washed out due to torrential rain. That meant GT were eliminated from the IPL and no longer in contention for the playoffs, thus making this a knockout game of sorts.

DC, with 12 points from 13 matches are sixth in the points table, whereas LSG are in seventh place with 12 points from as many matches. Although LSG have two games in hand, two wins would only take them to 16 points, and would need to rely on other results to go in their favour. They should hope that CSK and SRH, in particular, lose their next games with Hyderabad having an extra game in hand.

DC missed Rishabh Pant terribly against RCB. Pant had been given a one-match suspension for maintaining a slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals on 7 May. Axar Patel led in Pant’s absence, and the all-rounder was the lone fighter against RCB with the bat, with a knock of 57 off 39 deliveries. Axar also endured wicketless figures of 0/24 against RCB.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul’s strike-rate remains the talking point as far as LSG are concerned. It’s been a far from perfect season for Lucknow, who have been marred with off-field controversy, courtesy a reported rift between team owner Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul.

However, they will have to put all those off-field issues aside and focus at the job in hand, that is, beating DC.

Squads:

DC: Abhishek Porel, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel, David Warner, Ishant Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav, Lungisani Ngidi, Mitchell Marsh, Mukesh Kumar, Pravin Dubey, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant (C), Syed Khaleel Ahmed, Vicky Ostwal, Yash Dhull, Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar Salam, Jhye Richardson, Sumit Kumar, Shai Hope, Swastik Chikara
