What were your favorite Nick Jr. shows during the early years of the Face era (1994-1997)?

Nick Jr.

For anyone wondering also, David the Gnome, The Littl' Bits, and Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics were still on during the early months of the Face era, so there was a brief time when you could see both The World of David the Gnome and Gullah Gullah Island on Nick Jr.

Muppet Babies

That show was so good.

And unfortunately it's nearly impossible to find to watch these days. Something about the relaxed agreements between Jim Henson, George Lucas and other partners. As time went on these agreements were more handshakes than contracts and now they can't show them pretty much anywhere.

Gotta play the long game and wait until every single clip they used goes public domain...

Napster was cool and all, but the way it tightened up licensing agreements is way worse culturally than piracy was

u/Ed_Simian avatar

I remember clips from Temple of Doom, Star Wars, and Ghostbusters. Also maybe some Three Stooges.

It always surprises me how some rare shows only show up on internet archive.

You can find it all on YouTube. My kids like the new Muppet Babies series so I’ve played them some of the classics. The Indiana Jones episode is a household favorite.

Heeeeyyyyy it’s Franklin

u/Anonymiss52 avatar

Little Bear was my favorite 🥺🥺🥺

It was so calming. You could just lay on the couch sick at home while your mom made you soup 😢

So this is how all of us remember little bear huh

It’s on YouTube! I like putting it on for my 2 year old it’s a relaxing show

Mine too. I’m gonna find it and watch or listen to some episodes because I loved (and still very much love) the music from that show! ☺️🥰

These are my 2 favs forever and always

Every once in a while little bear pops in my head and I think oh yeah that was a good show. So was Franklin

The newer series has a snail whose job it is to drive the towns fire truck. A snail. Glad my kids weren’t a fan in general. That seems wildly implausible for a show with sentient animals that have built a modern living space within a forest.

Little Bear is one of the best children’s shows ever. Fully plan on showing it to my kids someday

My two shows were Little Bear and Blues Clues

NGL, Steve Going off to College and His Cousin Joe Replacing Him Broke Me as a Kid

I work with kids and I swear during art time I found a big blue crayon just like his... it felt great to draw with and everything

Im here for this. Thank you!

Gullah Gullah Island and Blue’s Clues

Let’s all come play together, in the bright sunny weather!!! Fucking banger of a theme song

Gullah Gullah Island, Franklin, Rupert, Angry Beavers and I don’t think it was a nick jr. Show but was on tv during the same time period My Brother and Me.

all these answers are bringing back so many memories. 🥺

allegra's window, the busy world of richard scarry, gullah gullah island, and muppet babies were my favs. i remember eureka's castle, rupert, litl bits, little bear, and a couple other shows, but wasn't crazy about them. i watched blues clues for a bit bc i was enamored by steve but was slowly aging out by then.

Memory unlocked!

One time, my brother called me while I was watching it. He asked me what I was watching and when I told him, he said “what’s so scary about it?”

Papa beavers story time and Rupert

Finally, someone else who remembers Papa Beaver’s Storytime.

There are dozens of us!

I always mix that up with PB&J otter in my head.

It also had the best theme song... I played it for my wife (who's 5 years younger than me and doesn't remember the show at all) and she agrees that it's a banger. Right up there with the Dummy Bears.

Holy hell. I just played that intro in my mind. I can’t remember why I walk in rooms. But a show I haven’t seen or thought about in like 30 years, easy to recall!

Probably Eureeka's Castle, overall that era isn't very well remembered by me.

u/Neurodilation avatar

Gullah Gullah Island, David The Gnome, and Muppet Babies.

My god, I can still remember ALL the words to the David The Gnome theme song.

I absolutely loved David the Gnome! I would always look at small openings at the base of trees as doorways for the gnomes. The last episode of the series had me sobbing as a kid, it ranks up there with reading Where the Red Fern Grows as most traumatic media for me as a kid lol

u/KUWTI avatar

David the Gnome was my fave!

Little bear, Franklin, Blues Clues, Gullah Gullah island

Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games, was a writer for Little Bear, and that always makes me chuckle.

Wasn’t Rupert the bear part of that lineup too? That was my absolute favorite cartoon during that era.

I really just miss Stick Stickly.

Blue's Clues.

Gullah Gullah and it's not even close.

Gullah Gullah Island

My Brother and Me!!

u/Vadic_Shrike avatar

Pinwheel and Maya the Bee, altho those may have been a little earlier than 1994

Little Bill

Koala-walla land! I don't remember the name of the show. The little girl would go there with her magic koala friends to try and find her dad.

OMG I was trying so hard the other to piece memories of this show together. Thank you for giving the name

Lol this was Disney, but loved this!

This is an outstanding kid show. I'm putting this on so my kid Disney gets over stimulation from more modern shows

I still sing the peanutbutter and banana song that face sang. It was his favorite sandwich.

I’m going to have the Gullah Gullah Island theme song stuck in my head all day now! 😂

Little Bear

Allegra’s Window

Gullah Gullah Island

Timmy the Tooth

Maggie & the Ferocious Beast

The Alvin Show

Rupert was my homie. In fact I might go download it, it’s been too long.

Franklin, Little Bear, Blues Clues, Gullah Gullah Island, Dora the Explorer, Oswald, Eureeka's Castle and Allegra's Window, Face Era was the best era!

I will say, although I was aging out of Nick Jr. when face came along, that final sign off hit me in the feels. I had nieces and nephews that watched Nick Jr. and loved face. Sometimes I wonder what caused things to shift away from that type of programming.

I think I remember watching that same sign off.

Allegra's Window.

Sharon, Lois and Bram’s Elephant Show. I saw them Live as a Kid, before, correct Me if I am wrong, I think it was Sharon, whom died of Breast Cancer

My daughter was absolutely crazy for Sharon, Lois, and Braham! She'd sit every day in her high chair at lunch sing and eat :D

Funny thing. I found an Album in a thrift store of "The Elephant Show" bought it gave it to her and it made her cry.

She's now 33 and a 5th-grade teacher.

Time is fleeting!

Awe, that’s so Sweet! 🥹

Blue's Clues!

Maya the Bee!

They all kinda suck but if I were desperate it'd be David the Gnome. Ballin theme song atleast and didn't he turn into a tree at the end or something

Back when shows had the best theme songs. The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Gummi Bears, Chip & Dale’s Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Tailspin, David The Gnome.
