NO MORE OFF-SEASON: AMERICAN AIRLINES MAINTAINS BVI SERVICE ALL YEAR

American Airlines will offer uninterrupted flight service to the British Virgin Islands throughout 2024, even during the historically slower travel months of July to October. This marks the first time a major carrier has maintained continuous operations to the territory year-round.

The BVI Airports Authority announced the new arrangement on Saturday, hailing it as a strategic success that will help establish Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport as the premier Caribbean gateway and ensure robust tourism traffic all year.

Managing Director, Mr. Kurt A.G. Menal said, “as part of our strategic objectives for 2024, the Authority set the ambitious goal of being a catalyst for ensuring that the BVI’s main economic pillar of tourism has no “off seasons” by enhancing air connectivity primarily in the slowest periods of the year”.

Menal added that “our team diligently sought partnerships with airlines to ensure service continuity during the off-peak periods which historically witnessed a significant decrease in aircraft and passenger movements to the Territory; significantly affecting our operations”.

American will operate multiple daily flights from Miami to the BVI throughout 2024, ramping up frequency during peak winter travel periods. The airline’s schedule includes:

– July: 3 flights daily

– August: 2 flights daily

– September: 1 flight daily

– October: 2 flights daily

– November: 2 flights daily, 3 on Saturdays

– December: 4 flights daily, 5 on Saturdays

Minister of Communications and Work, Hon. Kye Rymer said, “I am pleased with the performance of American Airlines in the Territory thus far which comes at no cost to the Government or the Authority, even during this initiative.

Minister Rymer added “American Airlines began servicing the BVI on June 1, 2023, and had initially planned to suspend flights from August to October annually. However, due to increasing demand for the BVI as a destination and the visionary leadership of the Authority, the airline will now provide uninterrupted service to the Territory, Go, BVI Go”.

Theodore Burke, Chairman of the BVI Airports Authority Board of Directors, celebrated the initiative as “a milestone achievement” that will enhance travel experiences for residents and visitors alike.

American Airlines launched service to the British Virgin Islands in June 2023. This new year-round schedule represents the carrier’s sustained investment in the territory as a prime tourist destination.
