Blazers Punch Ticket to NCAA Super Regionals for Third Straight Year With 2-1 Victory Over WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Belhaven Softball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals for the third straight year after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Washington University.

The Bears would strike first with an RBI double to grab an early 1-0 lead. After a quiet few frames, Madi Miller would narrowly beat out the throw from shortstop to first to bring a runner in for Belhaven and even the score.

The following innings would turn into a pitcher's duel with neither team able to draw any runs in. In the bottom of the sixth, Belhaven would capitalize on a throwing error by the Bears as Ellie Jones came home to score and give the Blazers a 2-1 lead late.

Kennedy Carruth would seal the deal for the Blazers in the top of the seventh as she induced a groundout to Jones to retire the side and send Belhaven back to the Super Regionals for a third consecutive season. Carruth put up yet another impressive performance in the circle, allowing just four hits and one run while finishing with seven strikeouts.

Kennedy Carruth (W, 24-3): 7.0 IP, 4 H, R, 7 K
