House Hearing Spirals into Chaos After Marjorie Taylor Greene Insults Democrat's 'Fake Eyelashes': 'How Dare You?'

“That is absolutely unacceptable,” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told Greene in defense of her colleague. “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?”

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene sparked a chaotic back-and-forth after mocking a colleague’s physical appearance during a House Oversight Committee meeting this week, in what New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called “absolutely unacceptable.”

Chaos erupted during the Thursday, May 16, meeting —  intended to revolve around a resolution over Attorney General Merrick Garland — when a disagreement prompted Greene to comment on Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s appearance over what she presumed to be “fake eyelashes," per footage shared by NBC News.

After Greene asked if Democrats on the committee had been “employing Judge Merchan's daughter” — referring to New York Judge Juan Merchan in Donald Trump’s criminal trial — Crockett asked what Greene’s comment had to do with Garland.

"Do you know what we're here for?” Crockett asked Greene, who then turned around with an insult: "I don't think you know what you're here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing with your reading."

Those in attendance then attempted to call for “order” of the committee, before Ocasio-Cortez filed a motion to have Greene’s comment taken down from record.

“That is absolutely unacceptable,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?”

Things didn’t end there, as Greene then further attempted to escalate the situation by asking Ocasio-Cortez if her “feelings” were “hurt.” Later in the hearing, Crockett asked for clarification on what constitutes an insult during a hearing, by throwing in an apparent jab of her own.

“I'm just curious, just to better understand your ruling,” she said. “If somebody on this committee starts talking about somebody's bleach-blonde, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

"Uh, what now?" Chairman James Comer asked in response.

Crockett later clarified her statement on X (formerly Twitter), noting that Greene “wanted to talk about my appearance in COMMITTEE,” which she said was “against the rules" to do so. “She refused to apologize! The chairman ruled that it was ok… AND I asked for clarification about what qualifies as ‘engaging in personalities’ & basically wanted to know if I could talk shit about her appearance as… well… y’all know what she looks like, right,” Crockett wrote to her followers.

“PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES! This is what happens when mentally deficient people who can’t read and follow rules or just don’t give a damn… somehow end up in CONGRESS!" she concluded.

Greene also debriefed with her followers on X, deflecting by saying that while some viewers were “upset about the scene,” she herself was “upset and disgusted pretty much everyday” at the Department of Justice, federal government and Congress — claiming that the DOJ wants to “put Pres Trump in jail the rest of his life which is a death sentence!”

“Pardon me if I don’t talk as nicely as some people would like to hear,” Greene wrote. “I’m not going to keep you all addicted to outrage and hopium that never solves a problem or stops the inevitable implosion of the United States of America. I’m completely over it.”

Greene has previously made headlines in recent years for her disruptive behavior, displaying what was believed to be explicit photos of Hunter Biden at a hearing, calling Rep. Lauren Boebert a "little bitch," and spreading transphobic rhetoric during pride month.

As previously reported, Greene has repeatedly suggested since 2022 that she’s on Trump’s shortlist for vice president, as Trump himself has called her "brilliant" and a "badass."
