A new trailer has just dropped for the anticipated second season of House of the Dragon. Set to arrive on HBO and Max on June 16, the trailer reveals new footage to preview the Game of Thrones prequel's return.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon picks up very shortly from where the first season left off, delving further into the House Targaryen civil war. The marketing for Season 2 has been suggesting that fans "pick a side" between the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra. A new look at the feud's rising tensions can be seen by watching the trailer below.

The series is co-created by original author George R. R. Martin alongside Ryan Condal, who serves as sole showrunner for Season 2 after Miguel Sapochnik was co-showrunner on Season 1. Martin and Condal executive produce with Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.

New and Returning Cast Members Revealed for House of the Dragon Season 2

The returning cast members for Season 2 of House of the Dragon include Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen), Sonoya Mizuno (Mysaria), Rhys Ifans (Ser Otto Hightower) Harry Collett (Jacaerys Velaryon), Bethany Antonia (Lady Baela Targaryen), Phoebe Campbell (Lady Rhaena Targaryen), Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen), Jefferson Hall Jason and Tyland Lannister), and Matthew Needham (Lord Larys Strong).

Newcomers joining the series with the second season are Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull), Gayle Rankin (Alys Rivers), Freddie Fox (Ser Gwayne Hightower), Simon Russell Beale (Ser Simon Strong), Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull), Jamie Kenna (Ser Alfred Broome), Kieran Bew (Hugh), Tom Bennett (Ulf), Tom Taylor (Lord Cregan Stark), and Vincent Regan (Ser Rickard Thorne).

"For as huge as it is, it's quite an intimate set. My particular storyline is quite, for the moment, contained. Contained, let's say—very wild, but contained," Rankin said of the second season, per Town & Country Magazine. "I've always given the opportunity to play people who are pretty prophetic, which is cool, but it's a lot of pressure! She's so f***ing cool. I want to really ground her and find her humanity—I always try to find my way into that, but she has a lot of power, too.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO and Max on June 16, 2024.
