‘Road House’ Is Officially Getting a Sequel, Jake Gyllenhaal Set to Return
In 1989, the legendary Patrick Swayze starred in the original Road House movie. The movie has achieved cult status in the meantime, and while the 2006 sequel was panned by critics, Amazon decided to remake the movie, which was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, but it seems that the fans were more than satisfied, as a sequel has been announced by Amazon, with the first film’s main star, Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role in the sequel. We’re certain that this sequel won’t repeat the failure of the original sequel, but it remains to be seen how well Amazon is going to execute it.
The first movie was released in March 2024, and the critics on Rotten Tomatoes have agreed that “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.”
The movie wasn’t all too bad, and while it probably won’t become a cult classic like the original movie, it seems that it was one of Amazon’s bigger hits, as per the following Tweet:
As you can see, the movie landed an impressive number of views and that is what prompted Amazon to order a sequel, which will see Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton in a new story.
Aside from Gyllenhaal, the movie also featured Daniela Melchior as Ellie, Conor McGregor as Knox, Billy Magnussen as Ben Brandt, Jessica Williams as Frankie, B.K. Cannon as Laura, Joaquim de Almeida as Sheriff, Austin Post as Carter, Lukas Gage as Billy, Dominique Columbus as Reef, Arturo Castro as Moe, JD Pardo as Dell, Beau Knapp as Vince, Hannah Lanier as Charlie, Kevin Carroll as Stephen, Robert Menery as Jack, Darren Barnet as Sam, Travis Van Winkle as Dex, and Jay Hieron as Jax “Jetway” Harris. The official synopsis reveals the following:
Road House stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter trying to escape his dark past and his penchant for violence, in this adrenaline-fueled actioner. Dalton is barely scraping by on the reputation that still precedes him when he is spotted by Frankie (Jessica Williams), owner of a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. She hires him to be her new bouncer in hopes of stopping a violent gang, working for crime boss Brandt (Billy Magnussen), from destroying her beloved bar. Even five to one, Brandt’s crew is no match for Dalton’s skills. But the stakes get higher with the arrival of ruthless gun-for-hire, Knox (Conor McGregor). As the brutal brawls and bloodshed escalate, the tropical Keys prove more dangerous than anything Dalton ever faced in the Octagon.
