KL Rahul said DC's total was a par score and lsg could have been chased it down after going down by 19 runs.

Lucknow Super Giants suffered a 19-run loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday. The loss left LSG suffering heavily in the quest for making it to the playoffs as the result paved the way for Rajasthan Royals to ensure a top-four finish.

LSG remained on 12 points and have their last game against Mumbai Indians as DC moved to 14 points, same as Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and their playoff chances depend on a sequence of other results.

LSG skipper KL Rahul, after the match, said losing wickets in the Powerplay has been a problem for them this season and a big reason they have struggled throughout.

“This has been a problem right through the season – we keep losing a lot of wickets in the Powerplay, we never get a solid start to get the likes of  (Marcus) Stoinis and (Nicholas) Pooran in, that is the big reason why we are in this position,” Rahul said after the end of the game.

LSG got off to the worst possible start losing their captain in the very first over. Things got worse as Quinton de Kock went back after a few lusty blows with Stoinis and Deepak Hooda following suit without much impact.

Pooran came in with an attacking intent and took on the bowlers. He continued his aggressive nature while Ayush Badoni tried to provide support but couldn’t hang around for much longer. Pooran fought a lone battle with a fantastic fifty, but their hopes were slashed once he was dismissed.

Arshad Khan hit a blistering fifty along with some support from Yudhvir Singh and kept the hopes alive. However, Arshad kept losing partners at the other end and his effort was not enough as LSG fell short of the target.

Rahul said that the wicket remained pretty similar throughout the 40 overs, adding that his side didn’t capitalise after getting Jake Fraser-McGurk early.

“I feel the wicket remained the same throughout the 40 overs. When we got JFM out in the first over we should have capitalized, but they – Hope and Porel – showed a lot of intent. We did well at the back end and 200 was a par total, we should have chased it down,” Rahul said.
