After making headlines for skipping out on off-season workouts earlier this year, CeeDee Lamb is back in the spotlight. The Cowboys star was looking for a contract extension, but ultimately got no response. With the athlete signing a $14,010,012 contract with the team back in 2020, and even getting a $7,749,100 bonus, no one expected him to opt out of his rookie contract. However, the open demand came a few months ago.

Moreover, Lamb even skipped the team’s voluntary workout program, leading the fans to wonder about his commitment to the team. Now a Dallas Cowboys reporter has shared an update regarding offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s views on the matter who seemed to think it did not matter too much. The coach stated, “It doesn’t matter right now. CeeDee’s a pro. He’s going to know what to do.” He also confirmed that he intends to keep Lamb in the Cowboys saying, “We know he’s taking care of business, and when he gets back here, we’ll certainly be able to find ways to get him the ball.”

Although Schottenheimer seems sure that the 25-year-old’s contract will be extended, there has been no update on whether the wide receiver will start the season as part of the team or not. Recently, the CEO of the Dallas team opened up about a potential timeline for CeeDee Lamb’s extension. However, he did not give a definite answer. Instead of giving fans any kind of update, Stephen Jones ended up confusing everyone just a bit more.

Stephen Jones’ thoughts on CeeDee Lamb’s delayed extension

Recently, the Cowboys’ CEO, Stephen Jones, finally addressed CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension in the vaguest way. The 59-year-old tried to beat around the bush and claim that a “timeline” did not work on something like this. In fact, he stated that it would take some time to address the “big contracts.” The 25-year-old has not revealed how much he expects to be paid. However, he did hint that it would be a huge number.

While Jones might be taking his own sweet time to figure out the contract extension, it looks like Lamb has his goals set rather high. In a recent episode of The Edge, the 25-year-old told Micah Parsons that he had not settled on numbers yet. However, he wanted “to be one of the top-paid receivers for sure, if not the highest-paid receiver.” Although that might be a big dream, the athlete will first have to catch up to the highest-paid WR in the NFL right now.

Most people might expect it to be the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill. However, earlier this month, the Eagles’ AJ Brown overtook the athlete. With the 26-year-old signing a new 3-year contract with Philly, he will be earning around $32 million per year. The former Chiefs star had the title with his annual salary of $30 million, but with talks of extension, he could soon reach the top spot again.

Although Lamb has some big goals, it might take him some time to reach the leave of Brown and Hill. After all, with his projected contract showing only $17 -$20 million a year, the 25-year-old has a rather long way to go.
