Madar, Boatright Named New Academic Deans at Mount Union

May 14, 2024

ALLIANCE — The University of Mount Union is pleased to announce that Dr. Sandra Madar has been named the dean of undergraduate studies and associate vice president for academic affairs and Dr. Bryan Boatright has been named dean of graduate, digital and continuing education and associate vice president for academic affairs. Both previously served as interim co-vice presidents for academic affairs since the fall of 2022. These changes follow the appointment of Dr. William Cunion as vice president for academic affairs in April.

Madar has been with Mount Union since 2019 and has been successfully leading faculty in the natural and health sciences during that time. Prior to her time at Mount Union, she co-founded Hiram College’s signature biomedical humanities major and served as interim vice president for academic affairs, and most recently as associate vice president for strategic initiatives, which included oversight of Hiram’s Centers of Distinction, International Studies and College Credit Plus.

Madar earned B.S. degrees in both anthropology and zoology from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Kent State University at the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Boatright joined Mount Union in 2016 as the University Registrar, a role he will continue to fulfill alongside his work as dean. His career in higher education spans almost two decades, ranging from admissions, student services, teaching, registration administration and academic affairs leadership. He currently serves on more than a dozen higher education committees with a wide array of charges and was an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow during the 2021-2022 academic year. In his role as associate vice president, he will continue to oversee the Offices of the University Registrar, Institutional Effectiveness and Digital Learning and Design.

Boatright earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, marketing, and accounting from Carthage College, a Master of Business Administration degree from Ohio Dominican University and a Doctor of Education degree from Argosy University.

“Bryan and Sandy have provided exceptional leadership during a challenging period of transition at Mount Union,” Cunion said. “We are fortunate and grateful that they will continue to work with our faculty to deliver relevant, high-quality education.”
