Haryana police team attacked, held captive for an hour in Shamli
SHAMLI: Five members of the crime investigation agency unit of Haryana police were allegedly attacked and held captive for nearly an hour at a house in Shamli district when they went there in search of a thief on Sunday evening.
"The police team from Haryana, led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Arun Kumar, arrived here in a private vehicle with only one or two of them in police uniform.After informing the local thana about their presence in the district, they proceeded to the suspect's house without waiting for local support, resulting in the incident at Chacharpur in Shamli district, " said Dharmendra Singh, SHO of Jhinjhana in Shamli district.
Singh further said the ASI of Haryana police has filed an FIR against all four accused under IPC sections 332 (harm or hurt to a public servant in order to deter him from doing his duties), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 352 (assaults or uses criminal force). "An investigation into the matter has been initiated," he added.
A police officer in Shamli, privy to the details, said, "The team from Haryana was here with regard to a theft case registered at Sanauli police station in Panipat district. When they went to the village to apprehend the suspect, Dharmendra Kumar, his wife and parents attacked the police team with bamboo sticks and locked them in a room. Local police later rescued them. ASI Kumar had sustained injuries."
