Waitlist 2024 Update!!

Future Badger

hi everyone, i just got an email from the office of admissions this morning asking me to fill out a continued interest form. i submitted it right away but it was basically just asking if i would like to stay on the waitlist or opt out of it- at this point. is this an indicator that they have started to accept people off the waitlist now? was anyone taken off it today? did everyone get this email or was it just certain people? did they send this to just people they want to offer a spot to?

For reference here is the email…

“As we prepare to assess space in our incoming class, we are reaching out to all students on our wait list to understand their continued interest in admission to the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

To ensure full consideration, please complete the Wait List Continued Interest Form no later than Friday, May 17.

Please do not send any additional documents unless specifically requested, as we are unable to accept them and they will not impact your decision.”

There are still 5 days until the commit deadline. Considering that they don't have class size numbers yet, this probably isn't any indication of people who they want to offer a spot to or not.

I’m guessing (don’t know for sure) that this would be cleaning up. If I were handing the list, I would do this to save time later so I don’t offer to someone who is attending elsewhere and no longer interested. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Last year offers started two days after that email to all students.

they started offers before the form was due? also this is due friday the 17th, 2 days after today is sunday; did they release the offers on a sunday last year?

I missed the part where it was due on the 17th. It does seem unlikely that they would offer before then.

Last year the letter went out on a Tuesday and they started offering that Thursday. I don’t know what the letter said last year.

i just heard that they did have a smaller wave before may first last year and a much bigger wave after the decision day. it seems unlikely they would do it before the 17th but it’s definitely possible they’ll release a small wave in a few days

All your questions were answered in the first sentence of the email.

everyone got this email last year

Daughter got the same email today. We are new to this process so I dug around some more and found this on another forum:

“Based on last year’s thread, they send an email. I assume they also update the student’s portal, but I didn’t see anyone reference the portal. Here’s the timeline from last year (based on a May 1 decision date):

April 25: students on the waitlist received an email asking about continued interest in the waitlist. Single question with yes/no option.

April 27: around late afternoon to early evening EST, admissions offers started to go out by email. Student had one week (until May 4 at 11:59) to accept the offer.

May 5: Between 6-8:00 p.m. EST, the next wave of offers was released. Some students who received offers also got an email about financial aid. Some received the financial aid email before their offer, some received it after the offer.”

For some reason i did not get this email, anyone know why?

i would check your spam and i would also log into your portal to see which email you put down for them to contact you with. i’ve been told that everyone should’ve gotten this email so unless you declined your spot on the waitlist back in march, you most likely did get this email! if you’ve tried these things and you still can’t locate it i would call the admissions office :)

Wait, I got deferred, So maybe this doesn’t apply to me then. I was told to self report my grades once they are available and once uw sends out a email about it. I think I have that right

deferred for this fall for first year or for transfer? i believe you may have missed an email so i would log into your portal to see what your status says. i’m not an expert at this but if you got deferred in january you should’ve already received an email back in march to see if you were accepted, waitlisted or rejected (if you were applying as a first year student for this fall).

I applied as a transfer student priority decision, got a deferred decision March 15, 2024. It said to self report grades once my official grades were out. They said they would email me when they wanted them.
