Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson & Alessandro Nivola Join The Cast of Forthcoming 'Downton Abbey 3'

The first ‘Downton Abbey’ film (released in 2019) more than doubled the worldwide box office of the second film, ‘A New Era’ (released in 2022), but that isn’t stopping Focus Features from going back for a third time. And for the third ‘Downton Abbey’ film, it looks like some major names are joining the cast. Focus Features has announced “Downton Abbey 3” is on the horizon.

There are no plot specifics being revealed as of yet, but we do know some of the names that are being added to the cast. Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, and Alessandro Nivola are set to join the cast for the third installment. Giamatti is no stranger to “Downton Abbey,” and he’ll be reprising his role as Cora Grantham’s brother Harold Levinson.

The announcement of a “Downton Abbey 3” was made via social media, where it showcased cast members seeing each other again as they get ready for a table read. Joining Giamatti, Richardson, and Nivola in the ensemble cast for the third ‘Downton Abbey’ are Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.

As expected, the new film is written by Julian Fellowes, the creator of the franchise, and the film will be directed by Simon Curtis, who is returning after helming ‘A New Era.’ A release date has yet to be announced.
