Watley is still very popular in Europe and Japan, and has done much of her touring and record making over there for a couple of decades.

If they were all really "forgotten," I wouldn't have remembered any of them, especially after 50 years, lol!

Can't disagree. I was trying to think of artists whose arrival was met with a great deal of hoopla for a while, then, not so much. Tracy Chapman, for instance, though she's enjoying a renaissance. Andy Gibb was THE flavor at first tasting. He was on every mag cover.

Recalling how HUGE he was, I don't hear much Phil Collins on radio.

We should have a thread: Artists who wore out their welcome, but not soon enough.

"Totally forgotten" has no safe harbor here. :D One could name an artist who sold 17 records, and 14 of those buyers are on this site------right now!

    Killjoys, all!

    • A bunch of the hair bands that peaked in the late 80s to early 90s, right as grunge was preparing to take their place are practically forgotten today. Bands like Tesla, White Lion, Warrant, Kix, etc. Relegated to the county fair circuit and nostalgia fests. Their albums dominated the 99 cent bins throughout the 90s. Though with the reemergence in popularity of the reprehensible mullet/porn mustache combo in recent years, maybe there's hope for them yet!
    • REO Speedwagon was absolutely huge, yet these days it's crickets
    • Edie Brickell and New Bohemians: They had one huge hit and I figured they were destined for years of stardom but they kind of fizzled out after that
    • Bobby Brown was also on top of the world for a while, but you seldom ever hear mention of his name.

What, you never read the weekly newspapers' "Police Blotter?" :D
New Edition, like all the other boy bands (they were NEVER "bands!"), are back on the road. Based on the age of their fans, they should call it, "The Change of Life Tour."

On Tony Orlando's left - Joyce Vincent Wilson, to his right - Telma Hopkins; together, they make up the backing vocal group 'Dawn'.

Not to mention every college football game band still plays "RR pt 2" all the time. I don't think a lot of people know about the artist etc., just that it's a big crowd rouser song

Wow there's a whole bunch of 80s names from the past, they all had several hits and then vanished, except Estefan who i still hear on the radio today. I remember how big the Jets were, couldn't stand them at the time though

New Edition has been touring consistently for decades, and playing huge places. Despite the fact that Bobby Brown's onstage behavior is erratic to say the least.

Those guys were forgotten only a couple of years after they broke through on MTV. I remember the big single from their follow-up record disappearing from the network after a week or so.

Speaking of New Edition, how about all the spin-off acts other than Brown? Seems like yesterday when the music industry couldn't stop talking about Bell-Biv-Devoe, or Johnny Gill, they seem to be pretty forgotten today

They were at least hair band-adjacent, though.

They're a big reason New Edition is doing so well, they do all that stuff in the shows.

Believe me, we do not want to know what he is moaning about. It's practically every other post with that guy.

One of my friends at work who is in his early 40s, and is in to music had never heard of the J Geils Band. We asked around once at a staff meeting and no one under 50 had heard of them.
