NEW DELHI: The fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a significant turnout across various states, including Maharashtra. Indian cricketers Suryakumar Yadav and Ajinkya Rahane exercised their democratic right by casting their votes in Mumbai.
Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav took to social media to share a picture of his inked finger, urging citizens to "shape the future of our nation" by participating in the electoral process.
His message resonated with the importance of exercising one's right to vote and contributing to the nation's progress.
Similarly, Ajinkya Rahane, along with his wife, cast their votes in Mumbai. Rahane shared a picture on social media, flaunting their inked fingers and encouraging others to fulfil their civic duty by asking, "We did our duty. Have you?"
Sachin Tendulkar also exercised his right to vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai. It is worth mentioning that the Election Commission (EC) has recognized Tendulkar as a 'national icon' to increase voter awareness and participation in the electoral process.
Arjun Tendulkar, Sachin's son and a player for the
Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the Indian Premier League (
IPL), accompanied his father to the polling station.
However, Sachin's wife Anjali and daughter Sara were unable to join them in Mumbai due to Sara's post-graduation convocation ceremony, according to sources. After casting their votes, both Sachin and Arjun proudly displayed their inked fingers to the media.
In a statement to the press, Tendulkar emphasized the importance of voting, saying, "I would like to say that problems happen because, one, you act without thinking, and two, you just keep thinking but do not act. I would urge people to cast their vote. It is extremely important for our nation's future."
The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections witnessed voting in 49 constituencies across eight states and union territories, including 13 seats in Maharashtra. Prominent leaders from various political parties contested in this phase, making it a crucial juncture in the electoral process.
To ensure a smooth and secure voting experience, extensive arrangements were made, with 2,000 flying squads, 2,105 static surveillance teams, 881 video surveillance teams, and 502 video viewing teams keeping a watchful eye across the 94,732 polling stations.
