In a heartfelt tribute to his late friend, superstar Rajinikanth expressed his gratitude towards the government for posthumously honoring actor-politician Vijayakanth with a Padma Bhushan. Rajinikanth’s poignant message, broadcasted on Vijayakanth’s Captain News, resonated with sentiments of admiration and loss, as he reminisced about Vijayakanth’s remarkable achievements.

The Padma Bhushan was received by his wife Premalatha and son in New Delhi from President Droupadi Murmu.

Rajinikanth conveyed his appreciation for the recognition conferred upon Vijayakanth, emphasizing the significance of his inclusion in the prestigious list of honours. He referred to Vijayakanth as not just a colleague, but a dear friend, whose absence is deeply felt.

The DMDK chief’s passing on December 28, 2023, left a void in the hearts of many, said Rajinikanth while talking about Captain’s legacy.

“The central government honored the late actor and my friend, Vijayakanth, with Padma Bhushan. On top of that, the Padma 2024 books will have his history, marking a celebratory occasion. It’s a top honor for him, but it’s hard to believe he’s no longer with us. There will be no one like him. I miss him so much,” Rajinikanth remarked, paying homage to Vijayakanth’s indelible mark as a ‘Madurai veeran’ (warrior).

The video, now circulating on social media, captures Rajinikanth’s sentiments. Vijayakantha, fondly known as Captain by his fans and party members, was suffering from a prolonged illness and breathed his last on December 28. After making a huge impact in Tamil cinema, Vijayakanth flouted his party, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, on 14 September 2005. He served as the leader of the opposition to the J Jayalalitha government between the years 2011 to 2016.
