Daily Shoe Spotlight | Nike KD1 Great Beginning!

Performance Review

Back in 2009 when these shoes dropped, what were you up to?

The high-top silhouette of the entire shoe perfectly embodies the old-school basketball sneaker vibe. Even today, they still look incredibly stylish!

Materials: 5/5

In terms of design: The shoe features extensive leather construction with irregular stitching, giving it a premium feel. The leather quality is top-notch!

Cushioning: 3/5

For cushioning: The midsole combines full-length PHYLON foam with forefoot ZOOM air cushioning, meeting Kevin Durant's requirement for reasonably priced sneakers back then!

Details: 5/5

The highlight of the shoe is undoubtedly the outsoles of both feet, each engraved with different content, packed with details related to Durant!

Fit: 4/5

As for fit: I have narrow, low-arched, flat feet. Size 45 fits me perfectly without any sizing issues. The shoe last is quite narrow, providing a snug fit without squeezing the arch. When worn, it feels like there's a slight forward weight distribution, but the forefoot ZOOM cushioning is very noticeable!

Cushioning: 3/5

Cushioning: Similar to the KD 2, the midsole setup is identical, offering the same cushioning feel. The forefoot is especially bouncy, but the heel feels quite firm, lacking responsiveness. Typical shooter's shoes!

Support: 4/5

Support: The shoe provides excellent lockdown. The narrow last and sturdy leather upper ensure a secure fit with no extra space, although it can be a bit tight on the outer side, especially for wide feet. It doesn't provide much arch support, making it friendly for flat feet!

Traction: 4/5

Traction: The full-length outsole pattern offers decent grip, suitable for basic movements and even quick stops and starts!

Breathability: 2/5

Breathability: With such thick leather material throughout the shoe, there's no need to mention that it's quite warm, with minimal ventilation!

Anti-rollover: 4/5

Anti-rollover: The low forefoot weight distribution, outsole extension, reinforced outer side, and strong upper minimize the risk of rolling over!

Foot-shoe integration: 3/5

Foot-shoe integration: Not very fluid; I attribute this to the strong upper. Running feels a bit clunky, not syncing well with the natural gait. Hence, the power transfer feels sluggish!

Overall, performance-wise, it's a bit disappointing, but the shoe's details are what truly captivates. Setting aside aging issues, it's suitable for lightweight forwards and shooters! Especially those who play like Durant, this shoe would feel fantastic, given that it's his signature shoe!
