Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs when they needed to win by at least 18 runs to reach the playoff of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will make RCB finish in fourth place in the points table and play the Eliminator.
Needing 201 to reach the playoffs, Chennai lost wickets at the top and then had a fifty-partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra. Later on, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja added 61 for the seventh wicket, but that was not enough as Yash Dayal Dhoni got out the second ball off the last over even after being hit for a 110-meter six off the first one.
At that time 11 was needed off 4 to reach the playoffs for CSK. They could only make one more in those four balls.
Earlier, RCB, after being asked to bat first, scored 218/5 in their 20 overs as Faf du Plessis hit a fifty and Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green made useful contributions.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Chennai named Mitchell Santner in the playing 11 in place of Moeen Ali has gone back to England for national duties. No changes in the RCB playing 11 but it is Glenn Maxwell who has replaced Will Jacks. Jacks has also gone back to England.
