Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen secured their inaugural league title earlier in the season and further cemented their legacy with a 2-1 victory against Augsburg on Saturday, ensuring an undefeated domestic campaign.
This milestone coincided with a dramatic shift in the league standings, as former champions Bayern Munich fell to third place. Bayern squandered a 2-0 lead to suffer a 4-2 defeat at Hoffenheim, allowing Stuttgart to leapfrog into second place.
Leverkusen's unbeaten streak now spans 51 games across all competitions, surpassing a 59-year-old UEFA record. Two additional victories will crown a sensational treble-winning season.
The upcoming challenges include the Europa League final against Atalanta in Dublin on Wednesday, followed by the German Cup final against second-tier Kaiserslautern just three days later.
