Memorial Cup: London Knights opening game already sold out

Article content

If you’re a London Knights fan planning to catch the team’s Memorial Cup opening game, you might already be out of luck.

Tickets for London’s first game on May 25 in the four-team tournament to decide the national junior hockey champion (and that includes a U.S. team this time) are already sold out, according to the ticket office for the Saginaw Spirit, the Ontario Hockey League host team.

That leaves Knights fans still hoping to catch their team’s early action, against the team from Drummondville, Que., down to looking for tickets from re-sellers.

The tournament is being played in Saginaw, Mich., about a three-hour drive from London. Besides London, the OHL champion, and the host city team, the other contenders are the Moose Jaw Warriors, who won the Western Hockey League title, and the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

All the games are being played at the Dow Event Center, a Saginaw arena with seating for about 5,500 for hockey – not nearly as large as the 9,000 the Knights can pack in at their Budweiser Gardens arena.

Ticket availability to the remaining Knights round-robin games, on May 27 and 29, was limited as of Friday, the Saginaw office said.

Tickets can be bought online through Ticketmaster or by calling the Saginaw Spirit ticket office at 989-497-7747.
