Stephen Kenny has been appointed as the new manager of St Patrick’s Athletic, six months on from his departure from the Ireland hotseat.
The former Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Dundalk boss is set to take over the reins at Richmond Park following the sacking of FAI Cup-winning manager Jon Daly.
The 52-year-old has penned a five-year contract with the Saints until 2029.
Kenny last managed in the League of Ireland with Dundalk and enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the Lilywhites between 2012 and 2018, winning four league titles and two FAI Cups – with double successes coming in 2015 and 2018.
He subsequently went on to take over as Ireland manager in 2020 following Mick McCarthy’s departure, having previously served as U21 manager in the national setup.
He endured an ill-fated run in charge of the Boys in Green, however, and failure to qualify for both the 2022 World Cup as well as this year’s Euro 2024 tournament resulted in his dismissal in November of last year.
A Pat’s statement read: ‘St Patrick’s Athletic are thrilled to announce the appointment of Stephen Kenny as First Team Manager.
‘The 52-year-old returns to League of Ireland management after five years working in international football, and has signed a contract at Richmond Park to take him to the end of the 2029 season.’
