Just got offered a credit card with a limit of 20K and 75% APR

Discussion / Conversation

I love being a homeowner and finding the whackiest cards in the mail.

They have a 100% acceptance rate. All I need to do is give them info on one of our credit cards and my social security number. The company is called Capital Express. Sounds legit.

Our toddler loves the cardboard cards that comes with the mail. He collects them to use in his pretend supermarket. He thinks he struck it rich because the card has a giant $20,000 on the front.

Meh. I’d take 75% APR if it had like amazing rewards and benefits and a grace period so I could get around the whole interest thing. But something tells me this card is either 0% or 1% cash back, and likely has some ridiculous annual fee.

The name “Capital Express” is hilarious. They just took two words from the names of two major well-known national banks and mashed them together.

Honestly I am nosey and would love to know, but the QR code that was included just sends me to some nonsense website with broken English and some Chinese lettering.

Legitness

hey, it worked for FaceApp (Facebook + WhatsApp)

American One will be next.

They just took two words from the names of two major well-known national banks and mashed them together.

I mean, that's basically Credit One's whole strategy haha; just copy Cap1's name and logo and hope people don't realize they aren't affiliated with each other until its two late and they're trapped

Credit One had the swoosh logo first, but the Credit One name came after Capital One was well established.

Yeah, this. Also people forget that around the time both logos started being used, the swoosh was an extremely common element in graphic design. Many, many logos incorporated the swoosh back then. One example I can think off the top of my head is the 1999-2020 Burger King logo.

I've always wondered why Capital One never redesigned its logo simply to avoid being associated with Credit One

This reminds me of Scott Tuckers first scam. He named his payday loan firm “Chase, Morgan, Stearns, Lloyd” to try and seem affiliated with the big banks.

Cosmo Model & "Talent" pretends to be affiliated with Cosmopolitan Magazine.

Except that it was Capital One that took it from Credit One...

At least they don't try to charge a 75% interest rate.

u/Well_spread avatar

Actually Credit One was out before Capital One logo and name...

We got Capital One and American Express at home…

The company is called Capital Express. Sounds legit.

Ah Capital Express 🤔

Their Double Savor Gold Magnet Preferred card looks pretty good.

1.5% cashback on everything and $110 annual fee with $200 bonus if you spend $10,000 in the first 45 days. FTF waived if you use it in Puerto Rico and American Samoa.

What's not to like? It even makes a cool metal sound when you drop it.

That fucking sucks

You wouldn’t know a good deal if it hit ya in the face!

Literally saw just that on a loan website today.

Maybe there is an Inception potential for this deal, where you get the card to buy the debt of the fund behind this company, eventually get a controlling interest, then screw the remaining shareholders.

You just need to think out of the box.

u/TrickPassenger5560 avatar

As an Inception JUNKIE, this comment just made my whole year.

Interest rates need to be capped legally.

They kind of are under usury laws.

Capital Express and Credit One should merge

Capital One Express Credit 🤔

Isn't that illegal?

Only for military servicemembers, I think. And maybe only in specific states. I don't think there's a nationwide legal cap on APR that covers the general population.

u/ThenImprovement4420 avatar

Credit Unions can't charge more than 18% interest. On loans or credit cards.

And here I thought my 17% NFCU card was pretty good

Edited

They definitely can on loans. 18% is cards only.

36% is Max for military specifically (for both credit unions and banks) not for general.

That may actually explain how it ended up in our mail. My brother is a vet and lives with us. I have seen his credit history and it ain't pretty.

I had to shred his cards and put my 36 year old grown brother on an allowance system like our 3 year old child.

u/dingadangdang avatar

Fuuuuck this country.

The older I get the more I despise this shithole.

(And I've been to dictatorships , and yes they were worse duh so everyone shut yer yapper.)

Seriously, why do they need your other credit card info though? For the initiation fees?

I'm assuming this post is completely tongue in cheek.

Never heard of them, OP. Oh my, to that interest rate, though!

First Premier Bankcard offered a Mastercard with a 79% APR and an absurd AF several years ago.

I think this post needs a /s

Looks like a scam

u/UnableClient9098 avatar

I’d only accept if I planned on filling bankruptcy afterwards

That shit should be illegal asf

u/United_Reply_2558 avatar

I can't find any mention of this card online. Is it issued by First Premier, Credit One, Continental Finance, Bank of Missouri or some other subprime lender?

It came with a QR code to scan to access their website. The website was 100% sketch and didn't end in a .com or .gov.

I would share it but we tossed the papers last night and the card is in our toddlers hands so who knows where he put it.

This is a troll lol, 75% apr? Also owning a home has nothing to do with receiving cards in the mail lol

Don't use it, and get you overall CCU down...

Any good sign up bonus? The APR doesn't matter if you pay it off each month.

I wouldn't do it despite the fact I pay the full balance each month. That bank is essentially a loan shark preying on if or when you have a late payment or cannot pay the full balance. All credit card issuers are to some extent, but this institution is flat out after people and I just morally can't associate with that kind of bank. Also, I don't think I would comfortably be able to sleep at night knowing I have a card that can potentially do so much financial damage with that interest rate.

Probably why we got the card. My brother lives with us and it was addressed to the residents of our home. He has terrible credit and isn't allowed to bank with American Express or Chase or Capital One. This card would be perfect for him. Too bad we shredded his credit cards and have him on a strict financial payment plan.

75% APR? Really?

I remember when they used to send plastic cards

America Express sends us plastic cards still. They are more toddler proof. Cardboard ones last about two weeks with our kid

Hahahaha 😂😂

There’s no way the Apr is 75%.

u/United_Reply_2558 avatar

I mean it still beats payday lenders.
