A SKIN specialist has set up her first business in the town centre.

Wellness and Beauty By Fi, established by Fiona Charlton, has opened on Priestpopple in Hexham.

She worked in the NHS for seven years as a biomedical scientist before working as a physician associate, which involves delivering treatment plans under supervision.

Fiona, 29, moved into general practice and realised there were a lot of patients with skin issues requiring dermatology referrals.

"It got me thinking about opening my own skin specialist clinic so I can provide those services people might have to wait a long time for," Fiona said.

"I've always wanted to have my own little business. I thought it would be a good opportunity to get set up and just go for it. I'm hoping it goes well."

Fiona's main interest is in treating acne and pigmentation, including conditions such as rosacea.

"I'm medically qualified, so you'll be seen by a professional who has quite an extensive background in the NHS."

She offers packages to target general concerns and advice and treatment for individuals.

Treatments vary from deep cleansing facials to micro-needling which stimulates collagen production, or dermaplaning, which can help reduce the appearance of acne scars or other skin imperfections.
