Baseball

Resurrection Christian 6, Weld Central 3, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian won its fourth consecutive game, improving to 19-3 overall, 10-2 in Class 3A Patriot League play. The Cougars trailed briefly, 3-1 midway through the third inning, before finishing the game with five unanswered runs. Junior Charley Wilson led the way, hitting 2 for 3 with two RBI, a run and a double. Freshman Luke Witzel led Weld Central, hitting 1 for 4 with two RBI. Senior Christian Siemer pitched well for Resurrection Christian, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out eight and walking five in 5 1/3 innings. Weld Central wrapped up its regular season at 6-17, 0-13.

Windsor 11, Green Mountain 0, 6 inn., in Lakewood: Windsor extended its win streak to nine games and improved to 20-2 overall. Senior Rylen Renton led a potent Wizards offense, hitting 2 for 4 with four RBI. Junior Ethan Fillinger went 1 for 3 with three RBI and a run. Fillinger also pitched five of the six innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out nine and walking one.

Highland 6, Strasburg 2, in Strasburg: Highland was solid in all areas of this 3A Patriot League win. Huskies juniors Sawyer Morgan and John Bingley each had two RBI. Bingley went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs. Highland sophomore Stetson Hendren pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out eight and walking four. The Huskies improved to 11-11 overall, 4-9 in Patriot League play.

Wellington 12, Valley 5, in Wellington: After leading 3-2 in the top of the third inning, Valley was unable to match Wellington’s late-game run production. Junior Andrew Renken led the Vikings, hitting 2 for 4 with two runs, an RBI and a double. Valley fell to 11-11 overall, 4-8 in 3A Patriot League play.

Track and field

Local teams compete, in Longmont: Numerous local teams enjoyed some late-season action during the HOKA St. Vrain Invitational, hosted by Longmont High School at Everly-Montgomery Field.

Dayspring Christian senior Eboselulu Omofoma led the way, placing first in the girls 100-meter hurdles (14.50 seconds). Windsor senior Mikey Munn was first in the boys 100 (10.66). Wizards sophomore Kiana Cumings placed first in the girls 200 (24.78).

Valley senior Aidan Brownell won the boys 300 hurdles (38.29). Windsor’s team of sophomore Maya Brasch, junior Caidin Steele, Cumings and freshman Tatum Gentry won the girls 800 relay (1:41.90). The Wizards team of sophomore Kendal Bach, Cumings, senior Sidnei Cumings and junior Lindsey Hinson was first in the girls 1,600 relay (3:56.93).

Greeley West boys place fifth, in Fort Collins: Greeley West’s boys were fifth (55), while its girls were eighth (24) eighth (24) in the John Martin Invitational, hosted by Fort Collins. Prairie’s girls were ninth (23), and its boys placed 15th (5).

Fort Collins won the boys (206) and girls (155) team titles by comfortable margins.

Greeley West’s Daniel Sandoval placed first in the boys long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 5 inches. Prairie’s Hannah Kugler won the girls high jump (5′ 4″).

Weld Central participates, in Englewood: Weld Central competed in the Windjammer Track Classic, hosted by Englewood High School.

Junior Megan Hopp led the Rebels, placing second in girls discus with a distance of 117 feet, 5 inches.

SATURDAY

Baseball

Windsor 5, Denver North 2, in Denver: Windsor concluded its spectacular regular season on a 10-game win streak, improving to 21-2 overall. Junior Izaak Haro led the Wizards offense, hitting 2 for 4 with two RBI, a run and a double. Windsor sophomore Drew Miller pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, striking out one and walking three.

Greeley Central 10, Poudre 9, in Greeley: Greeley Central won consecutive games for the first time this season via this nonconference nail-biter. After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Wildcats promptly responded with one run in the bottom of the first and five more in the second. Central led 6-4 before Poudre scored five runs in the top of the seventh. Suddenly trailing 9-6, the Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion. Senior Martin Mendoza led an effective Central offense, hitting 1 for 2 with three RBI, two runs and a double. Senior Zjhonoah Trujillo and junior Anthony Partida each had two hits for the Wildcats. Trujillo had a home run, and Partida had two RBI. Central improved to 6-15 overall.

Severance 13, Frederick 7, in Severance: Severance continues to build momentum for a potential postseason run after winning the 4A state title a year ago. The two teams were tied at 5 until the Silver Knights clinched the win with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Severance senior Brennan Taylor had a spectacular day at the plate, hitting 3 for 3 with seven RBI, a run, a home run and a double. Silver Knights sophomore Dom Torres and senior Ryan Ewoniuk had two hits apiece. Severance secured its third consecutive win and improved to 15-7 overall, 11-6 in 4A Longs Peak play.

Dayspring Christian 9, Denver Academy 4, in Denver: Dayspring Christian extended its win streak to eight games, improving to 12-5 overall, 7-3 in 2A/1A Mile High League play. Juniors Josiah Rodriguez and Logan Vaniddekinge led the way, as each recorded two hits and two RBI. The duo also combined to allow one earned run on four hits, striking out 16 and walking one.

Platte Valley 9, Brush 5, in Brush: Platte Valley rallied late to cap off its impressive regular season with another strong win against a longtime league contender. Trailing 5-3, the Broncos scored six runs in the top of the sixth to seize the win. Sophomore Logan Hackett and senior Kody Reusink drove in two runs apiece for Platte Valley. Reusink had the second home run of his season. The Broncos end their regular season at 12-11 overall, 6-7 in 3A Patriot League play.

Niwot 5, Northridge 2, in Greeley: Northridge suffered its eighth consecutive loss and fell to 5-17 overall, 4-13 in 4A Longs Peak play. Senior Lincoln Lyons hit 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double for the Grizzlies. Sophomore Damian Alvarez went 2 for 3 with a triple and a run. Lyons was solid on the mound, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking two in seven innings.

Riverdale Ridge 14, Roosevelt 9, in Johnstown: Roosevelt wrapped up its regular season by dropping the second of two consecutive games against Riverdale Ridge and seeing its losing streak extend to three games. Riverdale Ridge led just 3-2 before blowing the game wide open with a nine-run top of the third. Senior Josiah Martinez and sophomore Brady Mylander each had two hits and two RBI for the Rough Riders. Roosevelt finishes its regular season at 12-10 overall, 10-8 in 4A Longs Peak play.

Peak to Peak 14, Fort Lupton 0, 5 inn., in Lafayette: Fort Lupton struggled in all facets of this nonleague game, suffering its sixth consecutive loss and falling to 3-17 overall. Peak to Peak scored multiple runs in each inning, out-hitting the Bluedevils 10-2. Fort Lupton junior Jesus Gonzalez and sophomore Josiah Gonzales each had a hit.

Track and field

Roosevelt hosts last chance meet, in Johnstown: Roosevelt welcomed 59 other schools onto its home track for the Teddy’s Last Chance Qualifier.

Windsor’s team of sophomore Kendal Bach, sophomore Kiana Cumings, junior Maggie Bush and junior Ava Schaefer placed first in the girls 3,200-meter relay with a meet record time of 9 minutes, 47.04 seconds.

Dayspring Christian senior Eboselulu Omofoma was first in the girls 100 hurdles (14.60), the 300 hurdles (44.89), girls high jump (5′ 3″) and triple jump (37′ 3″). Resurrection Christian junior Jackson Fagerlin was first in the boys 800 (1:52.41). University senior Dylan Sup won the boys 200 (22.23).

Roosevelt senior Toby Gilliam won the boys discus (158′ 10″). University senior Johnny Whyrick won the boys shot put (54′ 3.5″). His junior Bulldogs teammate Nicholas Rothe won the boys pole vault (14′ 8″).

Highland partakes, in Lafayette: Highland’s girls placed seventh (41 points), and its boys were 16th (7) during the the Maxine Erhmann Thornton Invitational at Centaurus High School. Broomfield won the girls (82) and boys (80) team titles.

The Huskies won the girls 800-meter relay (1:47.47). Highland also won the girls 400 relay (50.53). Huskies senior Mary Jones won the girls 200 (27.17).

MONDAY

Baseball

Northridge 4, Severance 3, in Greeley: Northridge wrapped up its season with a quality win against the defending 4A state champion. The Grizzlies scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Severance scored all three of its runs in the sixth. Senior Louie Pisano led Northridge, hitting 2 for 4 with three RBI and a double. Senior Ryan Ewoniuk and sophomore Braeden Kerksiek each had two hits for the Silver Knights. The Grizzlies improved to 6-17 overall, 5-13 in 4A Longs Peak play. Severance fell to 15-8, 11-7.

Eaton 8, Mountain View 2, in Eaton: Eaton wrapped up its perfect regular season with this decisive nonleague win. The Reds quickly assumed full control, going up 6-0 in the first inning. Senior Lucas Stone led the way, hitting 3 for 4 with two RBI, a double and a run. Fellow senior Kade Gentry went 3 for 3 with two runs. Eaton’s senior pitching duo of Stone and Mitch Haythorn combined to allow one earned run on five hits, striking out 14 and walking four. The Reds wrapped up their regular season at 22-0.

Valley 10, Sterling 5, in Sterling: Valley snapped a two-game losing streak to end its regular season with a 12-11 overall record, 5-8 in 3A Patriot League play. Vikings sophomore Andrew Schmunk went 1 for 2 with two RBI. Junior Carson Adolf and sophomore Trent Mestas had three hits apiece.

Mead 5, Greeley Central 3, in Greeley: Greeley Central fell just short of building on a two-game win streak in its season finale. Despite the loss, seniors Isaac Martinez, Read Richardson and Martin Mendoza each had a hit and an RBI. Wildcats junior Anthony Partida was solid on the mound, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one in seven innings. Greeley Central wrapped up its season at 6-16 overall, 1-13 in 4A/5A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play.

Mead 11, Greeley West 5, in Greeley: Greeley West wrapped up its season on an 11-game losing streak, falling to 3-20 overall, 1-13 in 4A/5A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play.

Wellington 3, Resurrection Christian 1, 8 inn., in Loveland: Resurrection Christian wrapped up its regular season with this surprising loss, falling to 19-4 overall, 10-3 in 3A Patriot League play. The Cougars erased an early 1-0 deficit with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Wellington kept Resurrection Christian off the board the rest of the way. Senior Brody Unruh drove in the Cougars’ only run on 2-for-3 hitting.

Englewood 9, Fort Lupton 3, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton closed its season on a seven-game losing streak, falling to 3-18 overall, 2-6 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. Sophomore Josiah Gonzales hit 2 for 4 with two RBI and a triple for the Bluedevils.

Girls golf

Resurrection Christian, Severance in top 3, in Sterling: Resurrection Christian shot a three-golfer score of 272 to place second behind Berthoud (269) in the 15-team 3A Region 3 tournament at the Sky Ranch Golf Club. Severance was third, shooting a 292.

Sophomore Karina Garcia led Resurrection Christian, shooting an 87 to place fifth overall. Also golfing for the Cougars were sophomore Avery Stockslager (88, 6th), sophomore Karis Reichardt (101, 19th) and junior Brooke May (97, 11th).

Representing Severance were junior Sophie Morgan (91, 8th), junior Katelyn Johnson (97, 11th), freshman Jaycee Runner (104, 22nd) and senior Isabella Baessler (121, 40th).

Sterling junior Macie Doherty, Timnath senior CheyAnne Schrick and Berthoud senior Brooklyn Tychsen tied for individual medalist honors, each shooting an 83.
