Special seminar: Magneto-optical spectroscopy: Exploring tunable quantum materials

Thursday 16 May 2024, 10:15 am

Research on quantum materials has become increasingly complex in recent years, integrating multiple aspects of solids such as dimensionality, magnetic order, topology, or superconductivity. Consequently, there is a growing need for experimental approaches that can tune quantum material properties to discover and explore new physical properties and exotic phases. In my presentation, I will showcase several studies primarily utilizing infrared optical spectroscopy and magneto-optical spectroscopy as the main investigative tools. They demonstrate how single-tuning parameters can significantly impact the physics properties of materials. In the second part, I will present my project, which aims to investigate tunable materials such as topological materials and van der Waals semiconductors. I plan to adopt a challenging approach that couples magneto-optical spectroscopies with pump-probe experiments and with isotropic pressure or uniaxial strain.
