A detached house in Sai Kung was severely damaged after a driver accidentally accelerated his van and rammed into it on Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

Around 6 am, the police received a report from a 65-year-old man named Lai, who stated that while driving his van along a road in Sai Kung, he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes, causing the van to speed up and ram into a detached house in the area.

The impact pulled off the door of the unit, and the window also fell onto the hood of the van.

The wall above the door was destroyed, with a large amount of cement falling off and scattering all over the floor.

A wine cabinet was seen leaning at a 45-degree angle, with several bottles of wine falling from it and either smashing onto the floor or a nearby table.

The owner of the house, surnamed Chan, came down when he heard a loud bang in the morning and has not yet accounted for his losses.

He posted online, stating that it was fortunate his cat was not injured in the incident, and that he is waiting for the police to complete their investigation before assessing the damages.
