Movies similar to the theme of Black Mirror

Discussion

In the search for some weird thriller movies that remind you of black mirror. I’ve watched that show too many times and am even more scared of how real it’s turning out to be.

My most recent movie that was similar was leave the world behind. The Tesla scene was creepy. Curious what others have to offer.

Ex Machina

Even got Domnhall Gleeson from Be Right Back.

Seen it ? Love that

If you enjoyed that I'd also highly recommend Annihilation, by the same director. Little more cerebral and abstract but still very very compelling.

Add Devs (it's a show but it's short) to the pile, also same director.

Black mirror is a warning about our use of technology. So i would suggest minority report, A.I., blade runner, ex machina, terminator, i, robot, matrix. I think ex machina is the closest in athmosphere.

Have you seen show Severance (2022)? It's very Black Mirror like.

Why are they all one word titles 😅

I'm too lazy to read long movie titles, so I only watch movies with one word title. I prefer short words like IT or π.

Minority Report is one of my favourite movies, and is cautionary tale about using technology to predict crimes before they occur. Amazing performances all around.

The same actress that played the pre cog Agatha was Alpha on TWD. Amazing actress!

Yeah, I just looked up who she was and I had no idea it was the same person! Too bad "garbage lady" wasn't the best opportunity to show off her acting chops, because she was unbelievably good in Minority Report.

I’d say Jadis was more the garbage lady 🤔

Definitely OtherLife (2017) and The Platform (2019), and The Immaculate Room (2022) tho that one's not as good.

Loved it. Certainly feels like a Black Mirror plotline lol

If you liked the more ambiguous, or even positive episodes like San Junipero, I would suggest the TV mini-series Maniac.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Strange Days (1995)
Dark City (1998)
Solaris (Russian 1972 and American 2002)
Event Horizon (1997)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) the the sequel 2010 (1984)

Great recs. All excellent movies.

I'd only recommend the Russian Solaris. It's very unnerving and the American lacks that vibe.

Swan Song (2021)
Men (2022)

I’m a big Garland fan, but Men might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

u/sonofabutch avatar

That ending… 🙄

I just watched MEN. How is this like Black Mirror?

u/sonofabutch avatar

It had a weird creepy vibe that reminded me of Black Mirror. 🤷‍♂️

All of Alex Garland movies really. Most, anyway. Guess I haven’t seen them all.

The Artifice Girl

Don't Worry Darling had a bit of this

Maybe try Code 46? I seem to be the only one recommending it when questions like this pop up. It's creepy in a lower key than black mirror but worth the rec because of how it extrapolates on future tech.

u/Xerosnake90 avatar

I think you'd really like the movie Coherence. Go into it blind so you can try to figure out what's going on along with the characters in the movie
