Checking through luggage, OneWorld partners on the same ticket

Question

Hi all, I’m flying on a OneWorld Classic Flight Reward ticket in September and the journey home will span a few days: Rome -> Helsinki (Finnair) -> Delhi (Finnair) -> Tokyo (JAL) -> Sydney (JAL) -> Melbourne (Qantas). These flights are all on the same ticket and all airlines are OneWorld partners so my understanding is I can through check my luggage from Rome to Melbourne. Is this correct? Thanks!

All I know, havent done the others, but as SYD is the first int - dom sector, you will have to pick the bags off the carousels at SYD T1, and go through Aus immi incoming procedures, and DAFF, then take it to the bag drop off point at T1 via the long undercover walkway, go through Aus dom sec secreening there, then take the bus to T3.

The break in HEL might need to have the bag taken off as well, if the transit time is long, some airports might not hold bags overnight, but lots of airport have lockers you can pay to put bag into.

Probably not DEL tho.

Yes and no. Having them all on the same ticket helps, but some airlines have issues checking in bags for more than four legs. And if any of the stops are greater than 24hrs these aren't transits but considered as stopovers where you'll have to collect your bags.

BTW that's one roundabout way to get from Rome to Melbourne! I hope the status earn is good.

Thanks for your helpful reply! The longest transit is 12hrs in Tokyo, so looking to stay airside and doing everything to avoid going through immigration until arriving in Sydney! Booking a RTW ticket with bronze status is not for the faint of heart, we get what we can get haha
