Leona is such a talented singer, an amazing voice and she released some excellent music in the past but damn, she hasn't released an album since 2015, with "I Am". Nearly a decade ago! What's going on? Is she no longer recording? It would be great to hear something new from her again (other than just a re-release of boring Christmas songs!) Her voice is too good to remain unheard by the public for so long!

I still say Simon Cowell sabotaged her career. I can't believe he refused to let "I See You" (from Avataar) be released as a single. That would surely have been a massive hit for her, especially with the additional promotion from the film the song would have got. It's a beautiful song and vocal performance. Come back Leona! There aren't many emotive powerhouse singers like her anymore! Celine is unwell, Mariah's voice is sadly not as powerful as it once was, Whitney is sadly no longer with us. I always put Leona in their category.

OMG I have just googled her, she hasnt released an album since 2015 :open_mouth: 9 years ! she did a christmas tour last year but apart from that shes vanished

I liked Spirit and Echo but tbh i got bored of her after that. All of her music just sounded the same and i dont mean this in a horrible way but she doesnt have a big enough personality to be a successful artist. i mean, im not a fan of Adele whatsoever but i have to admit shes funny. you kind of need the whole package if you know what i mean. Having said that i do feel sorry for her that when 1D was formed Simon Cowell totally disowned her after singing her praises

Like the other 99% of acts that rolled off the Britains Got The X Factor production line... she had her moment. She was one of the more tolerable things to come out of that manufactured mess, but I think comparing her to the likes of Celine and Whitney is a bit of a stretch :D

I have never forgiven her for butchering Run and the godawful One More Sleep that I seem to be subjected to increasingly more with each passing year. :D

I love One More Sleep :open_mouth: i think its a great song. TBH i can imagine she probably gets a big paycheck every christmas for that song which lasts her til the following year. i remember i think it was Noddy Holder saying every christmas he gets a load of money because Merry Xmas Everybody is played constantly every Nov/Dec and if an artist gets a very successful Xmas song under their belt they earn loads every Xmas. Probably same with Leona

Yeh I know. It probably doesn't feel that old because you only hear it in November/December time

She was on the Masked Singer Xmas Special as a judge.

There are some rumours that the nose job she had approx 10 years ago damaged her breathing and therefore vocals...she has seemed very hit and miss after that but it could equally just be age and overuse.

For me it was a lack of good songs that meant she didnt continue the success. I never liked Happy and all the singles off that 2nd album were forgettable. The world then moved on and had Adele to focus on for the big vocals.

The problem with Leona is she is very much a one trick pony and is only known for singing ballads, which is a shame because there's a uptempo song on Echo called Outta my head which is an uptempo, bit sassy song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mvUBH1B6P8 and íts a great song. Maybe if they released that as a single and she did more songs like that, she would've had more longevity

I didn’t know she had a nose job.
Anyway I just think her trademark ballad style became dated for the charts. As mentioned, Adele came along but there was a sense of authenticity and edge to her ballads, whereas Leona was more cookie cutter ballad style.

If you look on Duffy’s Wikipedia, it says why she stepped away from the spotlight. What she went through sounds horrific.

It's interesting as I feel the same way about the aforementioned Adele. I liked her first couple of albums but she bores me to tears at this point, it is the same song over and over again to my ears especially in terms of the actual lyrical/storytelling content.

I do agree with those who say Leona's music wasn't varied enough, though. She tried something a bit different with Glassheart but that album bombed, which I thought was a shame as I personally really liked it and the slightly darker edge to her pop vibe that it potrayed. But I thought I Am was absolutel awful, sounded like it was made for pennies in someone's basement with the problem I have with Adele - the same song being sung over and over except instead of love songs it was Leona singing about how she was making it on her own in the wake of splitting with Syco.

As someone who likes Leona's voice, or at least what it used to be because there has been something happen for the worst for sure with her vocals, I do think it's a shame how her career has turned out. She seems more interested in being an influencer if her Instagram is anything to by. I guess as long as she's happy but I wonder if she'd come along a few years earlier and had a better manager whether she'd have been much bigger. Upon Bleeding Love being released there was buzz that she was the next Mariah. It's been weird to go from that level of hype to where we are now but the music industry is always so unpredictable with who succeeds long term and who doesn't.

Don't know about the others, but Joss Stone released her 9th album 18 months ago and is currently touring the world, she's not doing bad in her career.

I don't know if that's so much the case now with streaming.

Her biggest hit is Bleeding Love, and that's more R&B than a big power ballad.

I am a fan of Leona and have all her albums, but do feel that her albums did lack stand out hits. An artists career is based on the quality of the songs they release and Leona's albums were nice to listen to, but a lack of standout songs damaged their sales.

Leona also suffered as a result of SyCo's obsession with making stars out of One Direction (and later Little Mix) to the detriment of virtually all their other acts. As soon as One Direction were signed all the other acts seemed to be dropped or ignored, while all the record companies time and energy went into the one act. Shayne Ward, Alexandre Burke and Rebecca Ferguson were other artists that were neglected by the label, in my opinion.

Unfortunately her voice is really quite bad nowadays and she doesn't seem to have much songwriting ability or desire to release more material. In the unlikely event she ever releases another album I'm not expecting it to be any good.

Leona hasn't only release ballads. She has a lot of mid-tempo songs as well as upbeat ones too, like Collide, Forgive Me, Trouble, Fire Under My Feet, Thunder, Favourite Scar and Outta My Head. Collide in particular is an upbeat dance track with Avicii. I didn't realise her voice has deteriorated. I haven't heard her singing anything for ages so haven't heard how she's sounding today. That's sad if that's the case as her voice has always been fantastic in the past.
