4th accused was in court 2 days before Nijjar’s killing
Jalandhar: Amandeep Singh, the fourth accused arrested in the murder case of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, had appeared in a Canadian court a couple of days before he participated in the killing that has strained diplomatic ties between India and Canada.
CBC News on Thursday reported that Amandeep Singh had been arrested in Surrey, B.C.
on a warrant after fleeing from police in March 2023. He was charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and made a first court appearance on June 16, 2023. Nijjar was killed on June 18.
“Court documents show that his case came up before the court again 19 days after the killing, on July 7, and was proceeding through the system toward a trial, scheduled for later this year, when he was arrested on separate firearms and drug charges in Brampton, Ontario, last November,” it reported further.
Meanwhile, Global News reported, “The case suggests that Singh, who was arrested in Brampton, Ont. on Saturday for Nijjar’s killing, was in the vicinity of the B.C. temple and allegedly behaving erratically prior to the shooting.”
It also reported that though he reached Surrey on a study visa, he took a year off and worked nightshifts at a warehouse and then appeared to take a turn. “He got an arm tattoo with the image of a gun, drove a muscle car and wore expensive sneakers, prompting questions about where he was getting his money,” Global News reported while quoting a source. Amandeep was arrested after Canadian police arrested three accused, Karanpreet, Karan Brar and Kamalpreet Singh. All the accused are in their twenties.
