Bayern rethink taxi for Tuchel after no replacement can be found, reports

May 16 – Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a u-turn to keep Thomas Tuchel as manager after encountering problems in their attempts to replace him.

Tuchel is due to leave at the end of the season according to a mutual agreement made with the club in February. But finding a successor is proving harder than anticipated.

Several German media outlets are now reporting that the club’s sporting directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are negotiating with Tuchel to reverse their joint decision to get rid of him.

Tuchel would need to be convinced that he’s not being asked to stay as a stop-gap before Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso or former Borussia Dortmund favourite Jürgen Klopp could be persuaded to join in 2025. Klopp is leaving Liverpool and wants to take a year’s break.

Bayern’s players are apparently in favour of Tuchel staying on. German internationals Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer have reportedly spoken in his favour, while Bayern’s English players Harry Kane and Eric Dier would also welcome it.

Many Bayern fans have signed a petition calling on the club to keep Tuchel in charge even though they will finish the season without a trophy for the first time since 2012.

Tuchel, the former Chelsea head coach, has been linked with Manchester United and said before last week’s Champions League semi-final second leg defeat against Real Madrid that he “loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League for sure. It was a very, very special time and I remember it well.”
