Hospital overcrowding: Close to 500 patients left languishing on stretchers around the country




According to data from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), some 470 individuals were on the waiting list for beds in Irish hospitals on Monday morning, reports Breaking News.

According to the union’s daily report on hospital congestion, 136 patients were in hospital wards and 334 people were waiting in emergency rooms.

University institution Limerick (UHL), where 85 patients were waiting for a bed on Monday, was the institution with the highest patient congestion, according to the INMO. 42 patients from Galway University Hospital (GUH) were next in queue, waiting on trolleys, reports Breaking News.

The Health Service Executive’s own statistics show that on Monday, 316 patients were waiting on trolleys at hospitals under its management.

Thirteen individuals were waiting at GUH and fifty-three in UHL. There were twenty-four patients at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital awaiting a bed, reports Breaking News.
