Later this year, Meadow Lane, a gourmet grocer focused on freshly prepared to-go foods, will open in Tribeca at 355 Greenwich Street. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Meadow Lane will feature grab-and-go meals for guests to pick up as well as household staples for purchase.

Owned by Sammy Nussdorf, this flower café concept will encourage passersby to physically stop and smell the roses. Beyond that, Meadow Lane will give guests a reprieve from the hectic speed of city life.

“Meadow Lane will be a unique oasis and a safe space within what can sometimes be a chaotic city,” said Nussdorf. “We want people to come in and have a shopping experience that makes them feel like they are in a magical place unlike anywhere else.”

According to Nussdorf, the first-floor retail square area will be 2,000 square feet and the kitchen on the floor below will take up the same amount of space. The Meadow Lane team spent months searching for the right property with enough space to prepare take-out lunches and entrées. In the coming months, 355 Greenwich St. will undergo renovations to transform from a restaurant into a market with an on-site kitchen.

The kitchen will be designed to accommodate a large culinary staff. Entrées, sides, bowls, salads, stocks, soups, dips, salad dressings, sauces, proteins, snacks, and deserts will all be made fresh on site in the basement-level kitchen.

The market will sell a curated selection of organic produce sourced from local farms. There will also be a variety of pantry items like chips, tinned fish and olive oils for guests to browse through.

In addition to its indoor market, Meadow Lane will have a window for expedited orders. In the colder months, options will include bone broth, coffee and hot cocoa; and in the warmer months, the menu will feature vegan froyo, juice and ice teas. Inside the store, guests will be able to pick up similar items at a coffee bar.

While Meadow Lane is primarily gourmet grocery store with an extensive selection of prepared meals, it will also have a flower studio near the check out.

Prior to launching Meadow Lane, Nussdorf worked at a single family office focusing on venture capital investing before professionally pursuing his interest in floral design. Nussdorf worked under renowned florist Jeff Leatham while living in Los Angeles. On his breaks at work, he developed an appreciation for the City of Angels’ abundance of fresh, healthy lunch options.

After moving back to New York, Nussdorf began wondering what options New Yorkers had to get quick lunches without sacrificing quality ingredients. He recognized a gap in the marketplace for a concept that offered ready-to-go meals served in a captivating space. Thus, the concept of Meadow Lane was born.

“I am so excited to deliver an engaging retail experience for people living and working in Tribeca,” Nussdorf said. “Meadow Lane is going to be a kind of sanctuary for people where they can stop in, hang out and have a change of pace from what is going on outside. I want this space to be at the intersection of the art of food and the art of flowers.”

Based on current projections, Meadow Lane should open in November of this year.
