Barcelona will demand €80 million for Frenkie de Jong amid Arsenal links

Barcelona will demand at least €80 million to sell Frenkie de Jong amid rumours of interest from Arsenal in the 26-year-old midfielder.

According to Fichajes, Frenkie de Jong is set to cost at least €80 million in the summer window should he leave. The 26-year-old Barcelona mainstay has plenty of suitors from the Premier League, with Arsenal in particular leading the charge for the Dutchman ahead of the new window.

Barcelona name Frenkie de Jong price

Barcelona are not in the best of situations ahead of the summer window, as they have plenty of financial issues to resolve. There’s added pressure from La Liga to cut their spending as well as cap their wage bill to a restricted figure, which could see them sell some of their top earners, including Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong is not their top earner, as that tag falls with Robert Lewandowski, but there are chances the duo could leave the club. As for the midfielder, he has reiterated time and again that he is happy in the City and likes to play for his dream club, but the situation could very well change in the summer.

Some notable Premier League sides are interested, and the chief among them is Arsenal. The Catalans have now named their price to sell De Jong, as they will demand at least €80 million for the 26-year-old mainstay. The range seems reasonable for some of the English sides, especially the Gunners, who might consider making a move for that price or something closer.

Alternatively, Barcelona had yet to make plans to cull players like De Jong from their squad, as Xavi Hernandez considered him a key component. They had reportedly offered him a deal, but he hasn’t signed it yet. Hence, the club are open to selling him if he further fails to commit to his future, eventually benefitting some of the Premier League sides keen on signing him.

Are Arsenal serious about De Jong?

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder and may as well look at De Jong over other alternatives. Some of the profiles linked with them are more holding midfielders, but should Arteta get his hands on the 26-year-old Barcelona mainstay, then he might change his plan about bringing someone to sit at the base of his midfield.

Jorginho’s contract renewal is also seen as a positive, and there are doubts whether Arteta will prolong with Thomas Partey. In the ideal sporting scenario, the Spaniard can create a top-notch midfield balance with all of those players in the squad, and with De Jong, he can have a solid base for the future.
