Gloria Northrup OBITUARY

Gloria Northrup Dec. 1, 1927 – Feb. 28, 2014 Gloria Northrup, age 86, of Mill Valley died at home in the company of family and friends. Over the past four years, Gloria experienced multiple medical challenges and declining health. Throughout it all, her Norwegian determination and personal resolve allowed her to live life to the fullest extent possible. Born in Tacoma, Washington, Gloria Helen Marie Johnson was the older and smaller of identical twins. Her twin, Grace Squire, predeceased her in February 2012. Gloria attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. After college she came to the San Francisco area and began her career as an Executive Secretary. She logged many hours as a volunteer at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco Symphony and The Marin League of the SF Symphony. She was a life member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Gloria met Alfred “Bud” Northrup through mutual friends and they married in 1950. The Northrups bought their Mill Valley home in 1962, while it was still under construction, on a ridge overlooking Homestead Valley. Mr. Northrup died in 1986. Gloria is survived by her niece, Susan Jacobsen of Tacoma; family members, Carol Turner of Missouri, Jeffrey Fisher of Rohnert Park, and Eric, Heather, Annika and Beck Jacobsen of Rough and Ready. Her cat, Shelley and many friends in the Bay Area and beyond, also survive Gloria. A celebration of Glorias life will be held on Thursday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Fernwood Mortuary in Mill Valley.
