A LOT OF FOLKS EARLIER THIS EVENING SAW SOME SITE LIKE THIS HERE AS THE STORMS ROLLED ACROSS THE STATE OF IOWA, SHELF CLOUDS SENT TO US BY DAMON DOWN JUST TO THE SOUTH OF GREENFIELD. SOME OF THOSE ADAIR COUNTY WIND TURBINES OFF IN THE DISTANCE THERE, THE RAIN COOLED AIR RUSHING OUT OF THE STORM, FORCING UP THE WARM AIR AHEAD OF IT, CREATING THOSE NASTY LOOKING CLOUDS ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THIS LINE OF STORMS THAT’S BEEN MOVING THROUGH HERE. AS WE’VE GONE THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT TIME FRAME, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE MORE OF THESE STORMS AS WE GO FORWARD THROUGH TONIGHT. MOSTLY NON SEVERE, THOUGH. MORE STORMS TOMORROW NIGHT AND THEN SEVERE WEATHER LOOKS MOST LIKELY AS WE HEAD TOWARDS TUESDAY. THERE’S THE STORMS CURRENTLY. RIGHT NOW NO ACTIVE WARNINGS RIGHT. JUST A RAGGED LINE OF SOME STORMS MOVING THROUGH EAST CENTRAL IOWA. NOW PRODUCING PROBABLY SOME GUSTY WINDS, LIGHTNING, THUNDER, HEAVY RAIN, BUT NOTHING MORE THAN THAT. ANOTHER LINE OF STORMS HAS BEEN TAKING SHAPE OUT IN SOUTHWEST IOWA, AGAIN LIFTING OFF TO THE NORTH AND EAST. SO YOU’RE PROBABLY GOING TO SEE AT LEAST SOME RAIN IN A LOT OF SPOTS HERE. AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF TONIGHT. SO THOSE STORMS WILL SLOWLY DRIFT OUT OF HERE AS WE GO TOWARDS TOMORROW MORNING DURING THE DAY TOMORROW, WE SHOULD BE MOSTLY DRY. ANY SEVERE WEATHER FOR TOMORROW IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE TOWARDS TOMORROW NIGHT. THERE’S GOING TO BE A BOUNDARY THAT LIFTS NORTHWARD THROUGH THE STATE TOMORROW AND SETS UP KIND OF RIGHT ABOUT HERE, NORTHWEST IOWA, WHERE IT WILL PROBABLY FORM SOME MORE STORMS LATE TOMORROW EVENING, PROBABLY AFTER SUNSET, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00. AND SOME OF THOSE WILL MOVE THROUGH THE STATE OVERNIGHT TO TOMORROW NIGHT AND INTO EARLY ON TUESDAY. SO THE BULK OF TOMORROW’S DRY DURING THE DAY TOMORROW NIGHT. NOT SO MUCH. MAYBE A COUPLE OF STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS TO HAIL AND WIND, MOST LIKELY THREATS. AND THEN AS WE GO INTO THE DAY TUESDAY, THINGS GET MORE INTERESTING. THERE’S SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT HOW MANY STORMS WE HAVE ON TUESDAY MORNING, HOW LONG THEY LAST, ETCETERA, ETCETERA. AND THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON THE MAIN SHOW THAT’S COMING AS WE HEAD TOWARDS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY EVENING, STRONG LOW PRESSURE CENTER. YOU CAN KIND OF MAKE OUT THE CIRCULATION IN THE STREAMLINES HERE. WE’LL MOVE THROUGH NORTHWEST IOWA TUESDAY, REALLY CRANK UP OUR WIND SHEAR LIFT IN A BUNCH MORE MOISTURE IN THE LOWEST LEVELS. AND WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A PRETTY POTENT SETUP FOR SEVERE WEATHER, INCLUDING, UH, YOU KNOW, TORNADOES, SEVERE WINDS, DAMAGING HAIL, ALL THAT SORT OF STUFF. SO THE LEVEL THREE RISK IS OUT RIGHT NOW. THAT CAN CHANGE AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. HERE’S THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER LOOKS AT THIS FORECAST TOO. BUT KEEP YOUR EYES OUT FOR THE SECOND HALF OF TUESDAY AS WE GO THROUGH THE FIRST PART OF THIS WEEK. ONCE WE GET PAST THAT, THEN THE EIGHT DAY FORECAST IS QUIETER. WEDNESDAY ACTUALLY PRETTY NICE. WEDNESDAY. JUST KIND OF BREEZY. THURSDAY. NOT BAD EITHER. FRIDAY. RIGHT NOW, LOOKING AT A CHANCE OF SOME STORMS GOING TO BE ANOTHER SYSTEM. MOVES THROUGH SOMETIME DURING THE DAY THERE. WE’LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT ONCE WE GET PAST THESE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. AND THE UPCOMING HOLIDAY WEEKEND DOES HAVE SOME ACTIVITY IN IT. NOTHING SEVERE RIGHT NOW, AT LEAST THIS FAR OUT, BUT AT LEAST A FEW CHANCES FOR SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AN

A cluster of storms Sunday produced plenty of lightning and some heavy rain for parts of southwest and south-central Iowa, along with a few warned thunderstorms and an overnight severe thunderstorm watch.Closings | Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts Showers and storms will linger into the morning hours of Monday, then we'll likely see a lull in the action through the middle of the day, allowing temperatures to jump above 80 degrees. There is the possibility that some storms fire later in the day Monday around a front that will be draped roughly SW to NE across Iowa. The same goes for Monday night into Tuesday morning, when another subtle wave in the atmosphere ripples overhead. If storms do form Monday evening into the night, hail and wind would be the most likely threats. That brings us to Tuesday, when severe weather potential is much higher. All signs still point to a strong low-pressure center sweeping across northwest Iowa, drawing lots of moisture in from the south, and cranking up wind shear through all levels of the atmosphere. Basically, this means tornadoes, wind, and hail are all on the table, and severe weather could be widespread Tuesday afternoon-evening. Because this is still more than 24 hours away, details aren't fully clear yet. There are still questions about how fast the main system treks by us, meaning the worst of the storms might be farther east/northeast of central Iowa. We also don't know exactly how storms early Tuesday morning could affect what happens later in the day. Once this system is gone, winds turn to the northwest Wednesday, skies dry out, and temperatures drop to normal again (lower 70s). Rain looks possible again by the end of the work week. Iowa weather forecast Monday: Thunderstorms early in the morning, then mostly cloudy skies with a chance of an isolated afternoon or evening storm. High 82F. Winds SW at 8 to 10 mph.Monday night: Thunderstorms likely, especially after midnight. Low 67F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.Tuesday: Strong to severe storms and windy conditions.
