Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. The German is set to manage his last game for the Reds in their Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday (May 19).

The Daily Mail reported that the legendary Scotsman personally requested to have a chance to wish him goodbye on a personal level. Klopp stated that the evening was outstanding, outlining the respect between the two.

Earlier this week, the 56-year-old admitted that it would be difficult to speak to the fans at Anfield after the game. Klopp said:

"I was super-emotional in moments this week.”

He added:

“The players said incredibly nice things about me and other staff who are leaving. I only made a joke here and there because if I’d started really to say what I thought, I would have gone emotionally. So I protected myself from that."
“On Sunday, I have to find the right words. I speak to 60,000 and . . . worldwide. The last time it will be super-difficult.”

It has been a memorable tenure for the German on Merseyside. In his nine years since being hired in October 2015, he has led the side to one Champions League, one Premier League, one FA Cup and two League Cup titles.

Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided reassuring words to fans ahead of his departure. The German stated that he was happy with the signings they have made and lauded incoming manager Arne Slot as well.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Wolves, he said (via press conference):

“I liked the signings a lot. Who the club is bringing in, I like them all. We have a good team, a really good manager is coming in - and we have all these guys too. The club is in good hands. People might worry about the future but I’m not. I really want the club to do well. It is not that I am thinking ‘my God, how will that all go?' No, no. It is fine."

After a nine-year stint at Anfield, Klopp is set to be replaced by current Feyenoord manager Arne Slot. Chief executive Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes will also return to the club.

Liverpool's signings this season have been focussed on revamping the midfield. The departures of the likes of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Fabinho made way for the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
